Hi Folks
Does anybody know how many wiers or rapids are between Northenden and Warrington if any please ? I know the river from the From the start to Northenden. I would like to go up to Warrington but unsure what it's like past Northenden. Has anybody done the full length? Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

It's not the weirs that are crucial, although there's at least one nasty looking one. The problem is that the Mersey becomes part of the Manchester Ship Canal at Urmston, and doesn't separate until just before it passes under the M6, and the Ship Canal is seriously and genuinely "no canoeing".
It's paddleable from Northernden down at least as far as Ashton Cricket Club. I've done it that far, and I haven't heard of anyone going further, but that doesn't mean nobody has. There's a weir shortly after after the Carrington Spur which I don't think I'd want to paddle (but you could probably portage it), and a hydro electric dam/weir where it flows into the canal.
