15' Prospecter and bikes on the car, How?

Post by Notters » Mon Jul 17, 2017 1:00 pm

Wondering if anybody with experience has any ideas as to how I can get my 15' prospector and three bikes onto the car (Audi Q5).
At the moment I usually just chuck the boat on upside down on the roof, but this will interfere with the bike rack hanging off the boot which I usually use if just taking the bikes out. I don't have a towbar to mount one of the towbar mounted racks on and at £400-500 its unlikely either.

How easy is it to mount such a big boat up on its side if i got uprights or one of those thule hull a port bars?
Would this give me enough room to then mount the bike rack on still?

Wondering what others did when taking boats and bikes and family away!

Thanks in advance
Notters.

Luckily I have a tow bar and the bikes go on a tow bar mounted rack.
Normal uprights and the canoe (15 prospector) goes up against them on its side. Kayak goes on the other side. Works well for me.
Try balancing your canoe on its side and see how much clearance that gives you before buying uprights?
One mate has canoe on roof with uprights not in the middle with two road bikes the other side.
Hope this helps a little.
