Mega Reflex Full Carbon

Post by Le_bambino »

I am reluctantly parting with my trusted surf kayak. She is a Mega Reflex constructed in full carbon (hull and deck). Really is a perfect specimen no dinks or repairs. Immaculate and always kept clean and stored indoors.

Looking at a ball park figure of £400 with spray deck and her very own sock to keep her looking as good as she can be.

Nope, that is a Short 'RRs.

This page has lots of pics of the original version of the Reflex.

This page has pics of the revised version which had the front rails softened off a bit (I owned one of these and loved it!).

I don't know which revision the boat for sale is I am afraid.

I wasn't even aware that there is more than one model. Maybe Denzil can advise? :-)

Nice looking boat dude.

You have the original model reflex there, the foot bumps in the nose are the dead give away.

The second version (the 07 Reflex) was just a revision of the first just softening the rails at the front a bit and flattening off the power pod on the back.

I'm afraid I can't tell you anything about the construction from those photos really but it is fairly easy to tell if it has a foam core (i.e. if it is an x-tech boat) or not. If just in from the rails (maybe 15-25mm) the hull has a step and gets about 10mm thicker then you have a foam core, if not then you don't. Bloody adverts, I nearly wrote Simples!

Ah great advice. I know it's certainly not foam core (x-tech) but the make up is full carbon both deck and hull as aposed to glass.

Hi Chaps,
The boat in X-Ray's post is in fact a Mega Max rather than Short RR's. I know this as it is my boat!
I bought it from Malcolm before he had chosen a name. At the time he described it as a larger Short RR's! It used to be the photo on Mega's website for the Max.
Great boat and still having fun in it - occasionally!!
Cheers

Fair play, without anything to scale it by they are pretty impossible to distinguish. The Short 'RRs and the Max in my opinion are two of the most fun surfboats ever made. Unfortunately their short length makes them slow to paddle out so not great for competition use as if the people you are competing against are getting into position quicker and getting 2 waves for each of yours it puts you at quite a disadvantage. Love that boat though.

Hi Mark,

Is this still for sale?

I'm in Yorkshire but heading for North Devon on 23rd August if you are in Bristol?

Cheers
