Need advice on buying a Kyak

Post by Newguy »

This might not be quite the right place. I have never been on a kayak before I mostly intend to be on calm lakes and mostly glassy rivers. I come in at about 270lbs what are some good beginner Kayaks to look at. I plan day trips and I think I will start integrating my backpacking trips in with kayaking too.

Have you thought about a canoe instead? No kayak can really match their load carrying capabilities, and for flat water work the right one will be stable and comfortable. Your best bet is to track down a club with kayakers and canoeists and ask for some guidance.
You've managed to post in the sale area, I'm sure someone will move it soon though.
Rum and coke, best served by the pint.

I did consider a Canoe and wasn't really feeling it. My wife wants to get into SUPing but I figured this might be a better place for us to start. Not many SUPs on Craiglist where we live.

Sit on tops, or touring kayaks?
