what if

OK, here's another idea... I casually walk into the Palace of Westminster with playboat rolled up under my arm. Climb out of a window, shin down a drainpipe and climb up some scaffolding to a ledge beside Big Ben, where I conduct mobile phone conversations with the media, while sitting in my Playboa...

what if

Ok, I was/am hoping to attend this event, despite my early email to riversaccess not being acknowledged or replied to. Now they've moved the goalposts and only want a hundred it seems. So what if I were to dress up like Old Father Thames... and go along anyway; But then I thought hanging round the P...

Pub: The Weir Location: Sunbury on Thames? right opposite said weir. Reason: This pub-sign alone! I want it for home. How could any paddler resist a passing pint? Talk about artistic licence, the actual weir is concrete and bears no resemblance to the sign itself. http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/...

Re: advice on spraydecks

it would be handy if the deck fitted on my java as well but an awesome seal on the chronic is top priority. i think they are both nominally keyhole but the chronic feels like the smaller end of keyhole Interesting, as having just become a two-boat kayaker, I was thinking do I now really need a sepe...

paddling to Westminster

Saw that in my Focus today; Looks like a nightmare to organise and I don't like the idea of leaving all the boats in a secure compound, then walking across the river to Houses of P. Where's the dramatic photo-opportunity in that? Maybe understandable with current security alerts. Some details also o...

best guidebook (non UK)

I would nominate www.alabamawhitewater.com the guidebook/rivers section has tons of stuff, a great clickable graded state map, topo maps, pictures, water quality, trip reports, gradient levels, rain levels, shuttles and even a forum. there's a picture somewhere of a paddler standing by a sewage geys...

Pyranha do offer a solution to this, when it happens. It's like a little shoe or brace about 100mm which fits either side of the cockpit rim, and is tightened up via a longer screw in the original hole. Helps distribute the strain when edging etc; Well it fixed it for me.

Don’t believe it’ll ever happen. The railways are under utilised for freight and they can’t even shift from road to rail. And when they denationalised the railways, all those acres of goods yards along the tracks, were sold of for private housing. No going back to freight-rail, government.. who nee...

kodak moment

There was a photo in kayak session magazine last year,
or was it canoe and kayak.. taken in Scotland I think.

It showed 'CANOE' and 'KAYAK' vehicles alongside each other,
one was a 4x4 estate type, t'other a people carrier as I recall.

this got me thinking

I know the big 'J' was a fisherman,
but what a kayaker HE would have made;

Walks on water ie never swims
Can part waves ie playboater
Can make it rain for 40days and 40nights ie river runner
Also can fit everyones lunch in his drybag
and provide something decent to drink!

any more?

On Christmas Eve I started to get a splitting headache and took some paracetamol, By the day after Boxing Day (Monday) I started to feel physically ill, it got worse. At this point I was drinking a lot of fluids (around 4 litres a day) Dave Blimey, I get those exact symptons *every* Christmas Eve &...

The one thing this thread has brought up though is that maybe a reviews section, like on Boatertalk, might serve a useful purpose, then you could post how you have found a boat, and then others could contact you off board for further details if they were interested. Cheers, That would be cool. Grea...

Certainly made the canoeists sound worse off.
BCU & JJ both interviewed.
Didn't like the anti angling angle, they can fish where they like,
so long as we can paddle past.

bbc radio four 12pm access exposure

You and Yours; just been trailed and on in 20minutes:

"new trouble in the countryside right to roam, right to row"

Right to paddle
Canoeists can't get access to over 95% of the rivers and waterways of England and Wales because the right to roam legislation doesn't apply.
