Re: Some questions about tandem kayaks

I really appreciate all your help here i think the tandem could be a good option for us, I'll still have my own boat aswell for other trips, I can testify to the divorce boat lol we first got a tandem inflatable which was great fun just a nightmare in wind but very safe and stable, at the beginning ...

Re: Some questions about tandem kayaks

Thanks very much that's reassuring to know it can work, I definitely would be paddling tandem in the calmer stuff for a few trips first to get both of us used to the kayak and slowly progress into more conditions as she feels safer, she says she trusts me in a kayak as she's came down to watch at ri...

Some questions about tandem kayaks

Hi everyone I have a few questions I'd like to ask you all about tandem kayaks as I've not had the chance to paddle one or know anyone who has own to try it out, long story short I have been kayaking for a while now joined a club and have been on lots of trips in conditions upto force 4 and 20 plus ...

Re: Scotland hostelries?

You'll do well finding pubs 15 miles apart in Scotland, most are crawling distance from each other lol joking aside, the Isle of skye would be a nice coast to paddle around and you'll more than likely be close enough to a nice wee pub, the west coast is also a nice paddle and it can be guaranteed th...

Re: Advice for learning to surf a sea kayak

I just thought I would add to my post I had another go in the surf zone today, landing on one of the beaches just past the north coast of the Isle of Gigha, my first time in force 4 seas aswell and managed to surf in some above head height waves all the way to the beach without a capsize, I did broa...

Re: How to repair a small crack on stern

That's very reassuring to know, I have had it out around the Isle of gigha today and it has held up perfectly, it seems very solid aswell, definitely keeping it in the boat for emergencies

Re: How to repair a small crack on stern

I think I have sorted it now, I cleaned the area with isopropyl alcohol then pushed epoxy putty into the void and knifed it smooth, it has now hardened and feels completely solid, not the prettiest repair but I don't mind, I'm sure it'll hold up well, thanks for all your help

Re: How to repair a small crack on stern

Thank you, I think the proper gel coat may be a bit technical for me to do but the gel coat repair sounds like it will do the job, I'm honestly not bothered about how it looks, to me it's an old boat and in time I could possibly cover it, I don't plan on ever selling the boat as it fits me so well s...

Thank you for the help, is gel coat repair the same as marine filler? Like a premixed epoxy tube? Thanks again

Re: Advice for learning to surf a sea kayak

I have to agree I thought it was amaxing and I would go back out and take a ragdolling around again and again and again no problem, It can only get better with practise and hopefully I'll stay above water more often

Re: Has anyone heard of an epic 16 cruiser touring kayak?

That's true the rudder was very good for adjusting allowing to keep up forward paddle strokes, i just kept hotting it when i pushed with my foot during a stroke, i did get my feet better positioned later in the day which made a difference so know i could get used to it

Re: Has anyone heard of an epic 16 cruiser touring kayak?

Thank you for your reply, i think i will probably go for this boat, i did get to paddle it for a day trip of 28km with some force 3 conditions and i found it absolutely fine just a bit strange using a rudder for the first time but i could definitely get used to it, with the rudder up and edgine it t...

Re: Off side roll

You very welcome and don't stress over it it will come, learning to offside roll is just the same as the good side it's just harder to do in practice, it's definitely worth keeping up practise on your good side while your learning to offside roll as you can end up losing your good roll if you don't ...

I'm looking to buy my first kayak soon and have really good offer for a 12 year old immaculate condition for its age epic 16 cruiser touring kayak carbon, i think its the model before the 16x, it's a lovely boat with a rudder aswell and seems perfect but i thought i would ask if anyone has had one a...

Re: Off side roll

Hi mate getting a reliable offside roll takes a lot of practice but eventually it will come, try using a paddle float while your learning until your comfortable with the process then reduce the air in it untill your ready to go without the float, if you keep missing rolls you can easily fall into ba...

Re: Does anyone else put markers on their paddles for help rolling?

Does anyone else put markers on their paddles for help rolling?

I'm wondering if anyone here uses markers on their paddles to help with paddle set up for rolling, following a recent first time surf session where i missed my roll a few times due to the blade diving, to make things easier next time i stuck a half spherical button onto the shaft with electrical tap...

Re: Advice for learning to surf a sea kayak

I can understand your worry about letting inexperienced kayakers go out in those conditions, all i can say is i had been nagging them to let me get a taste of some real conditions where i could experience what it's like to be thrown around by the sea and begin to learn how to control it and i defini...
