Re: Drysuit or seperate Cag and Trousers
probably obvious but a good spray deck keeps 90% + spray off from underneath .personally finding that drysuits don’t last that long and not worth the investment for maybe only 3 yrs of winter use .a thick longjohn wetsuit and mid range cag would be ok.

Re: Boating up -river
Did complete opposite today and went 7 miles With a strong downwind with a pushing tide .some big swell and only took 30minutes .big wide paddle is what’s needed for going up river/against the tide /wind .

Re: Stiff hands
Just been On a somewhat challenging paddle against the tide and wind on the tip of hayling harbour.one stretch at the end was a real push and wasn’t sure I was going to make it to my finishing point .(not even in the fast sea kayak but my trusty old sit on top) I find a paddle with a large blade wor...

Re: Stiff hands
Interesting to read this old thread again.after a fair while of trying various things just bare hands seems to work best but it’s not that ideal either .i did all this crazy kayak training over all these years thinking it would all come in handy for big wild sea kayaking etc and good practice for wh...

Best sit on top seats ....
Had a few seats which were not the most comfortable which also broke in several places .(about mid range ) I go on the sit on top in pretty choppy windy seas usually heading out against the wind and tide .so the seat probably takes a lot of strain .it is a very study hull which takes a lot to tip it...

It is a cheaper version called the quest but well reviewed online but maybe those people don’t wear them tight enough or hardly go far at all in them ?
Some bits on it look do similar to yours so this figures

Palm buoyancy aid
Just been out for an early morning paddle and thought I’d try this new palm ba which I bought for when a beginner kayak friend comes out.anyway I had checked the sizes before buying and tried it on when it arrived and seemed ok When I got going though it became more apparent the thing is such a bad ...

Re: Boating up -river
Of course this kind of hard workout won’t appeal to everyone but it’s good training For occasions where maybe you find yourself in a strong offshore wind and you need to get back to shore ASAP A TV program I was recently watching ,saving lives at sea a few weeks ago a featured guy in a sea kayak rac...

Re: Boating up -river
That is interesting and have just checked out some videos but it doesn’t look that hard but does look as though it might give you back ache doing that for any length of time .looks like perhaps more technique required than just fitness for that one Maybe though there should be some sort of kayak com...

Boating up -river
This might sound a bit of a strange question but does any such competition exist or anything similar ? I’ve done a lot of sea kayaking into heavy head wind and against the incoming tide which is hard work but a good work out and strangely enjoy the challenge I use to do road bike competitions and it...

Re: Life jackets
Reading the comments here made me wonder maybe it’s better not to have any buoyancy aid on so then swimming under the waves would be easier ? In that case what are you surpose to do when when chucked out the boat in a big set of incoming waves

Re: Life jackets
Hi ,Yes good point with life jackets getting in the way but I was finding the boat disappears long before I had a chance to get back on .hence why I’ve only been out with onshore winds and incoming tides so I don’t loose anything I can cope ok on smaller waves and not had this problem but in my expe...

Ok thanks for your thoughts.i still can't understand why crewsaver made the socks so small for .ridiculous really .I imagine they will be getting more of them being returned.the Hammond ones look good aswell as they can be fully customised to fit

Re: First drysuit....
Ok .looking at it again the socks definitely seem too tight.I could swap it for a XL but then it will possibly be too big in other areas and I am well within there size large .maybe I should have just got the palm one as I'm familiar with there sizes but I had read they can leak.the typhoon multispo...

After a few very cold paddles last winter I decided to go out today drysuit shopping .as I'd only use the suit for a few months a year I didn't want to spend too much on one .in the end I got a crewsaver atacama sport which came with a under fleece .(more for dinghy sailing but states on label for k...

Hi seaford probably is a bit far (I'm near chichester) anyway I've been looking into IOW circumnavigation for a while and definitely want to do it sometime soon - for intermediate boaters I think 3 days is probably realistic .Did a bit of a look about down there the other week the west of the island...

I think the worms in question are harmless when the fish is cooked or so I've been told.I bought a fresh pollack once direct from fishermen and had the worms inside.i was told they usually die when the fish are put on ice .Anyway I was about to cook the fillets left them in pan for few minutes came ...

Early signs of Arthritis possible I guess .maybe something worth looking into . I have done a lot of manual hands on jobs so that might be the case .but I do wear thick wetsuit gloves when on the water and only 25 so it can't related to cold water ..I have had those typical kayaker thumbs for a few ...

I could be gripping the paddle little bit hard but .i don't get this problem though when on easier paddle .i was once stupid enough once to think I could paddle across fast tide race lol ending up getting to shore with a struggle a little further down the beach than planned .

Having a bit of trouble recently with my hands when out paddling when I'm heading into strong headwind and going against the tide.strangely I have done this a lot as I like the challenge but after a few hours of hard padding my hands can just go really stiff and pretty useless for a while .i guess i...
