It won't stay stretched when it's in position though - it'll just hang resting against the chine......?

Re: What size shock cord?

For the grab handle cord I would tend to use normal cord - same size as decklines. Shockcord will just bounce the boat around whilst carrying it. Thanks for the reply. It'll be short loops which will stretch over the top of the bow and stern, with the silicone handles acting as a bumpers on the wat...

What size shock cord?

I'm building a sea kayak and making 2 carry handles (loops of shock cord with silicone handles at bow and stern). The kayak will weigh about 32 lbs unladen. What thickness of shock cord will I need? Thanks.

Re: Shrike, a lightweight sea kayak for home construction.^

That's v. helpful. I was intending to use Fyneboats. I was toying with using tape but was a bit 'feart' (Scots word) that it might go horribly wrong. Taking your advice I think I'll go for tape - maybe something a bit stickier than masking tape. Thanks again. I'll maybe contact you when I get to the...

I might be up for that but I'm planning to build a kayak from scratch so - I may be some time - as they say. Aboyne based and got a couple of experienced pals but I'm just getting some experience and at the start of a long journey.

Re: Fitting a pressurised hydration bladders

If you have a day hatch you could put the bladder in there and route the tube through the cover with a rubber seal to prevent water entry.

Pinning the plan to the wood is definitely the way to go. I think it would be £30 to get them professionally printed but I'll need to look into who does them in the Aberdeen area.

The Scorpio is a snug fit. I'm 5ft7 and size 8 boots and I do feel I'm wearing my boat.

Re: P&H Scorpio LV owners

Hi there. Owner of scorpio lv mark 1. Best of luck with your build, its something i would love to have the time to try. Measurements are a bit tricky because.... back of cockpit: approximate rear deck height...195mm very top of cockpit.................240mm internal edge of cockpit...........220mm ...

Re: P&H Scorpio LV owners

I've been helping a long-legged mate sort out the dimensions for the Shrike he's building, and Nick's recommended that we try and emulate the shape of his existing boat which we know fits him. However, to do this, we're not going to be able to just use measurements from that boat as it's not hard-c...

Re: P&H Scorpio LV owners

Good point, Douglas. I hadn't considered that but it's Greenland style. The position of the seat and the rear bulkhead are the only fixed points - I can vary everything else (height and size/shape of cockpit, foot bulkhead, position of knee/thigh braces etc) and the deck is flat at the back and at t...

I'm planning to build a sea kayak and I get on well with the P&H Scorpio LV. I'm thinking about the cockpit and aiming for something similar. Re: Shrike, a lightweight sea kayak for home construction.^

It's a rainy, breezy day here in Aboyne so naturally I'm thinking about building a kayak as a winter project. I've seen the builders' tips but is there a discussion forum for tips. hints and advice as you go through the process? I'm looking at a Shrike for a 150lb slim build paddler. Should I add 10...
