Re: Playboating techniques?

Thanks guys plenty there to keep me going!
I have looked at some EJ on Youtube but didn't know what to have a go at first, if they are in order than I'll have another look.
And I will check out the Ken Whiting one as well.

Many thanks,

Playboating techniques?

Been paddling for a few years now and I have recently got my first playboat ( pyranha loki). Just wondering what everyone rates as a good book/ dvd for learning correct techniques for the basic playboating moves? I realise I'm not going to be doing loops etc but bow and stern stalls cartwheels and s...

Re: looking for paddling buddies :)

Hiya you should contact Manchester canoe club, they are based in Marple. They are a pretty active club and there is a group of good boaters there who get out most weekends to places like North Wales and the lakes.
Should be just what you are after.
Hope this helps!

Re: Calling out the BS

When I say fast I mean as in a ferry glide, some boats make ferrying much easier, requiring less effort than others. Example, my axiom feels quite fast it makes ferrying and staying on a wave easier than my old D65. I just have to watch my ( much better paddler) mates have to plf their playboats to ...

Re: Powerhouse vs sherpa

I used sherpa paddles for over a year and was happy with them but changed to the small VE when I got a longer paddle. They are slightly larger surface area than the sherpa paddle, but not too large and I find them a much nicer paddle. When I go back to my Werner they feel horrible and under powered....

This is the reply I got from Llyr Gruffydd Thank you for your email. I am concerned the government has tabled a debate without the landscapes report being published as it is likely to be a far less informed debate because of this. I have not seen the report and know nothing of its content. I am not ...

Re: New paddlers need advice please

Join your local club, you will be able to use their equipment and access their coaching scheme, when you are just starting out its important to be paddling with people who know what they are doing. When you have tried various different boats, paddles etc you will have a much better idea of the kind ...

Yeah i made one out of a double layer of the weed fabric Plymouth damo mentions. The lightweight fabric not the more heavy duty woven plastic type. It sewed really easily and quickly. Its kept in my porch though not outside.

I have no experience with your chosen discipline but I do know this pain due to having a skinny, bony a**e ! The creaking sensation you describe seems to be when the glute moves over the bum bone whilst rotating? I have had this problem in most of my river runners and old creek boat, the solution fo...

Am I reading this right that your own bum bone is pinching your bum against the seat creating a bruise that hurts for days afterwards?

Re: Bcu membership and boat insurance.

Thanks for the reply, really helpful.

Im going to look into upgrading my home insurance and the bcu as well. I suppose its only my boat and paddle that im most bothered about, if I lost either of them it would be a while before I could replace them.

Bcu membership and boat insurance.

I was talking to my mate the other day about the bcu kit insurance. Ive never bothered even being a member, and assumed that the boat/ kit insurance they do would not really be worth it, only covering for theft or something, not actually losing your boat on the river snapping paddles etc. What does ...

Re: removing paint

Is it flakey paint or has it stuck pretty well? I wouldnt use any paint remover on it, it could damage the plastic. If its flakey then compressed air or jet wash (messier) usually works pretty well. Razer scraper blades held at 90 degrees to the surface will work pretty well but mark the surface. Th...

Yeah at 62kg wet through and almost 5' 9" I had a similar problem, inbetween sizes for a lot of boats really. I currently paddle a medium axiom which Im right at the lower weight range for but its never mattered, its not too big and its a fantastic boat. In my old medium creek boat I had I raised th...

Green Race

I've been watching some bits of the green race which looks awesome, I've not seen it before.
Now my question is what is it with the boats they are using? Why are they so much bigger than normal? Is it just for the extra speed? Or are there any other advantages?

Re: RE: Beginner q: Getting swamped boat out of the water

So, someone has wet exited. I am on the bank or the side of the swimming pool. The boat is full of water. What is the best way of getting the boat drained and put away without damage to back or boat? If I turn the boat upside down, cockpit downwards, bow on the bank, stern in the water, the water s...
