Protecting paddles for air transport

I'd love to take my own paddles on holiday, the alternative is huge blades nothing like what I use. I have a bag specially for them, but the blades will need some more protection and I don't know how to best do it. Or is it a recipe for disaster and tears in my sangria and I should leave them at hom...

Romany Classic Wanted

We are looking for a used but not overly abused Romany Classic, thanks.

Would also consider an explorer - standard size - in good order at a good price.

Romany preferred due to storage constraints (and I suspect boat envy...).

The way Epic paddles fasten is also quite different and not prone to the sticking that we've also experienced with Werner.

Re: greenland paddle workshop

OP definitely going to begin with a tutor on hand, though other information and links much appreciated - once I get the hang of it I will be making one for every occasion. Shouldered, shoulderless, storm paddle, norsaq, I require a wardrobe of wooden paddles. And having just looked at that link acos...

Re: winter sun & coaching for the incompetent

Thanks for the warning Douglas (and good to see you here I hope you are well).

I like my ears nodule free! I will invest in ear plugs.

It was actually surprising last winter just how chilly I got practicing rescues in Lanzarote despite the relatively warm temperatures. I’m clearly no iceman!

Re: greenland paddle workshop

Several options, brilliant! Thanks. The idea of a piece of wood magically transforming into a thing of beauty - and function - is appealing but a little hard to believe with my complete lack of skills and experience, I think I need adult supervision. If The Shed is in NZ I may be late on Monday... D...

Re: winter sun & coaching for the incompetent

A hood is a good idea at this stage however warm the water, keeping it out of my head will help reduce the psychological as well as physical discomfort of being immersed! My logic is to try to master rolling with least stress and practice practice practice, in the hope muscle memory will help me out...

winter sun & coaching for the incompetent

Last winter I spent a few days with Sea Kayaking Lanzarote and the coaching style and warm water did absolute wonders for my confidence. This year I'd like to go somewhere to focus on rolling, does anyone have any recommendations? And / or any recommendations for failsafe swimming tuition, where eve...

Re: Phone photography - waterproof cover...

Thanks guys for the helpful advice. Looks as though a waterproof case but still removing the phone for photos is the way ahead - will need to also put in a bit of microfibre cloth so that I handle it with dry hands. Not only did its predecessor go a bit funny if handled with damp hands but this one'...
