Jim, swimming with a hydrospeed is quite different
with the hydropeed you swim head first on your front
with a great big lump of foam between you and the rocks

when you swim out of your kayak it will usually be feet first on your back

gloves

get a box of plastic gloves (about £2 per 100)
it is a messy job getting the kevlar "wet" seems to be the secret. mask the boat with masking tape and newspaper
there are a couple of types of resin so make sure you get the correct one for your boats plastic :rolleyes
