Re: What do you do with your car keys.

The best solution of all is to be lucky enough to be married to a non-paddling support driver!!

Re: Wooden Paddles?

Many thanks for these two links - just what I was looking for.
I now need to investigate price and import cost, etc.
Are there any UK dealers / importers?

Wooden Paddles?

Does anyone know if one-piece wooden kayak paddles can still be obtained and if so where?
I'm thinking of relatively light and springy paddles suitable for performance WW use, such as those sometimes seen in the hands of squirt-boaters.
Thanks!
Jerry.

I can't comment objectively, as I haven't tried a range of playboats. However, I have recently bought a Loki and am delighted with it - recommended!

Re: Kayakers assisting in flood rescue efforts

I believe that this was exactly the context that led to the formation of the Corps of Canoe Lifeguards after the disasterous East Coast flooding of 1953. They were still very active in the 1970s, although I do recall having the distinct impression that they spent most of their time and energy compet...

Perception Blaze 6.9 River Playboat

The boat is well-used, but sound, with no major damage. I'm looking for around £200. The boat is in Berwick-upon-Tweed, but I'm regularly at the Tees Barrage and would be happy to arrange viewing or delivery there. Please PM me for further details and possible negotiation, etc. Best Wishes! Jerry Tr...

Re: SCA drama

There appear to be three fundamental questions at the heart of this controversy: 1) Should it be the role of the SCA board to formulate and implement policy from the top downwards? 2) Should the SCA revert to being a voluntary members association, instead of remaining a company covered by the compan...

Re: fluid element

The fluid donsa is also worth a look. It is very much old school, like the old perception sabre, but it runs along a wave nicely and cuts back easily. I love mine, but then I am a super-veteran still living in the dark ages!

Re: modern technology and kayaking

Relatively recent advances in composite materials and building techniques have made a significant difference to slalom kayaks; they are now strong and rigid as well as being light (they are also a lot more expensive!). The park and play experience has been greatly enhanced by the advent of pumped ar...

Re: Messy Beach Breaks

Hi, It sounds like you are at a venue that closes out in medium to large conditions. It can be pointless fighting a constant battle against the waves in this situation, unless you are one of those who actually enjoys this sort of thing! I would suggest consulting a surf guide for your area so as to ...

Re: Haystacks?

It is good to see that the haystack term is in fact still in use here and there!
I've also come across 'rooster tail', especially in American parlance, meaning an alarming feature where water shoots suddenly upwards, revealing the presence of a nasty submerged rock!

Re: Another East Lyn Pin

Most classic Alpine rivers are 'cleaned' every spring by the rafting companies, to remove potentially lethal strainers, etc.
Nevertheless, lots of us have an absolute blast on those!

Haystacks?

Re-watching the Everest film recently, I was struck by a change in our vocabulary. We still have stoppers, holes and eddies, but we seem to have lost 'haystack' for a large standing wave. Should this term be revived, even though haystacks nowadays are rectangular stacks of bales, rather than huge co...

My new kayak (a Donsa) arrived on Friday.
I have been training in it over the weekend and I am very pleased, both with the design and with the standard of construction and finish.

Re: Fluid Kayaks: Cause for concern?

It seems that their poduction of Fluid kayaks had stopped as they had run out of Fluid graphics and were having trouble obtaining more. I was relieved...

Fluid Kayaks: Cause for concern?

I paid three weeks ago for a boat from Fluid, that their website originally said was in stock.
There is no sign of it and for the past week I have been unable to contact them.
Is anyone else in similar position?

I have just caught up with this sad news, thanks to Dave M. I remember Ian from the 1970s as a great paddler who was always willing to share his ideas and expertise with others. He was also a larger than life character who could be relied upon to lead riotous drinking games at (any) events in Llango...

Jeannie and I are shocked and deeply saddened by this news and we wish to pass on our sympathy and condolences to Pete's family.
