I'm sure if a kayaker was to alter a river, it may be to adjust a playspot, i doubt any kayaker would alter the course of a river so drastically.

As far as i am aware, it is for security. It should be attached with a security screw which has a much less common screw head,so a tool is required which is much harder to come by.

I'm sure i recently read about an arm amputee that uses some sort of hook or claw, he mentions that his only downfall is that his hook scratches the paddle, ringing any bells for anyone? i'm really not sure where i heard or saw this...
