Re: Poole Harbour Race 2011
From Andy Coomes, PHCC Secretary: Poole Harbour Race 2011 is cancelled for this year The weather has it in for us. Sunday the 18th is a Force 5 gusting Force 6, better than the hurricane of the week before but still too much for racing boats and marquees. New dates for next year will be posted to th...

Re: To err on the side of caution.
Yes, Aled and myself put on our Big Girl's Blouses (can't wait for the fallout on this one) and retired to the Straits.

Looking at his Blog, I see Will Herman may be made of sterner stuff.

Orange,
As per John's reply - a turn around each bridge, otherwise the course is pretty much the same, though the choice of routes is mostly left up to the individual.
Details are on the Performance Sea Kayak website.

Re: Menai Straits Challenge
Er, excuse me! Before we find ourselves a little carried away here, I think we should not overlook the fact that Marcus has neglected to stick to correct protocol by addressing his complaint to myself personally, rather than going through the Menai Challenge Event Committee (and of course by implica...

Re: Best kayak for UK circumnavigation
It's 52 cm wide, has a full length waterline of 5.5m and needs a rudder to steer. Now, I've been trying to sit this one out but... 52cm wide? well, fair enough. Full length waterline - well that doesn't tell the full story. But whether it is worth trying to explain, I probably think not. Needs a ru...

Aled tipped me to this one:

Re: Fastest Solo UK circumnavigation unsupported
80 days start to finish - paddling and rest/bad weather days included. Though Marcus obviously put the miles in; a favourable outlook from the weather gods makes a big difference and can obviously make or break (and has done on more than one occasion) such a trip - as we all know. Good luck with the...

If I'm not mistaken, it's holding on a kevlar strip to protect the bow from damage. These are common on downriver race boats... I saw the same of Jeff Allen and Harry Whelan's Tarans, on their round Ireland record - but it puzzled me, as they were going for speed, and we always used to take the prot...

No, that wasn't metric to imperial confusion that was just growing up in a base 10 rather than base 12 world - I'm not that old you see. I'm also a bit thick at times.
