Detached cockpit rim

Hello, I've got a problem with my boat (whose make I'm deliberately not being forthcoming with). The cockpit rim has broken away at the and I have approximately 1/2" of movement in the plastic rim. Though the plastic rim still seems to be attached with whatever adhesive was used to the fibreglass of...

Re: Nordkapp Forti

Nordkapp Forti follow on review. I've now been paddling the boat considerably more and feel better placed to give more feedback. I've just got back from a Scotland trip where we managed approximately 10 days on the water. Most of that was with full expedition loading and a week + in terms of provisi...

Re: Nordkapp Forti

The Tideraces and the Nordkapp are about as far apart in terms of hull shape that I can think imho. The tiderace designs seem to be harder chined and developed for their ability to bounce back from edge with solid secondary stability. Even the Xcite and Xplore have those chined regions to a certain ...

Nordkapp Forti

Nordkapp Forti first impressions. Hello, When I was researching the Nordkapp Forti there didn’t seem to be that much information out there so I thought I’d try and sum up my thoughts on the boat after one outing. Just as background I’m 6’ 4” 80Kgs 35” inside leg. Generally it’s a struggle to get bo...

DMM Snagless karabiner issues

Just a heads up to forum members really. I've had some issues with the DMM 'Alpha Sport pro' quickdraws. http://www.v12outdoor.com/product.php/944/dmm-alpha-sport-clip-bent-carabiner-red-and-blt/a73111f665a1e9aa029247ddf35e4841 These are the 'snagless' type which I thought would be ideal for a towli...

Winter UK/Ireland Circumnav

Before I start I should point out that I'm not considering this! However- is it at all feasible? There was a push in mountaineering circles a while back to push previously only summer attempts into the realms of winter. So Summer Munro rounds became winter Munro rounds. Summer Alpine 4000ms became W...

This report comes from the estate owner, who is not very keen on kayakers. He has his reasons
Have there been issues on this estate before regarding kayakers?

Re: Paddle dilemma/durability

I'm 6'4" and paddle with a 215 Ikelos and 215 Cyprus. The question of height I find isn't as important as height of torso. I have reasonably long legs so my torso might be the same height as someone shorter so it might be a good idea to see what other people of similar torso size paddle. In the past...

Re: CAMPING and TICKS

We've seen a fair few ticks on Anglesey this year just while stopped for lunch in sheep country. Seems there's lots of them about unfortunately. I hate the idea of waging chemical warfare on nature though when I head out into the wilderness to try and interact with it as peacefully as I can. Saying ...

Anglesey would be the obvious choice. Lots of great coastline and probably the highest density of sea kayaking coaches in the UK!

We can do sweeping generalisations too! "Yachts are the opposite of epic." http://www.volvooceanrace.com/en/home.html Sounds like some of those on the other forum have had a few too many G&T's on their gin palaces and just want to spout off. Saying that visibility doesn't always help them either. ht...

Wanted: Expedition boat 17ft + Tiderace Xplore-X, Xcape-X?

As the title really. If you're thinking of letting a big expedition boat go (i'm 6'4" with 35" inside leg so won't fit small boats) drop me a line. Based near Chester/Anglesey.

Re: Typhoon Multisport Drysuits

I have a multisport 3 and have had excellent service from Typhoon. To be honest I had rubbing and some limited de-lamination after a couple of years use- maybe after the suit had been used 60-70 times in total. I might be shot down in flames here but expedition kit does get hammered. It's not ideal ...

Re: why don't they make sea kayaks like this

I have a tiderace Xtra HV. The outfitting is simple and pretty effective though I don't like the back band very much and do find it twists to one side whilst kayaking and rubs my back pretty badly. The best outfitting i've ever had in a boat was a Wilderness Systems Tempest with the Phase 3 XP outfi...

Re: keel eazy for seams?

I put some on the hard wear areas of my boat, bow, keel and front deck where my splits can rub. My experience has been a bit mixed. Very easy to fit using a hair dryer. After using the edges can start to pull away and get sand etc trapped in them (5 months of paddling every weekend) so i've had to t...

Re: Problems on Fladda?

Was there a couple of months ago and landed. There are private notices on the island. We got talking to the person who was on the island at that time who was friendly but warned us that the owner didn't like having people landing on the island at all and to be allowed to land was not the norm. Not a...
