Effect basically means to cause, affect means to have a influence on.... I assume that you mean the latter.

Re: River Safety Help

Quite agree with Colin, Do a WWSRT course and if you have not already done so consider doing an FSRT course first. It is not a matter of having lots of expensive shiny toys but of having some well rehearsed skills that you and those you paddle with know. there are some bits and pieces that are quite...

Re: Dry pouch for phone

The various Aquapac type pouches are getting better with passing time. You do though need to make sure that they are properly closed and in the case of Aquapac bits which are ESSENTIAL to a waterproof closure do tend to fall off and get lost. A friend of mine who suffers with MND accidentally droppe...

Re: Dry suit Zip systems.

Jim, I agree with your point about the end position of the diagonal zip although just from looking at pictures and seeing them on people. The only way it looks like it might eliminate the need fro a comfort zip in most case would be that you could more easily on you own take the top of the suit off....

Re: Dry suit Zip systems.

Ah yes I had forgotten the ones which undo round the legs....

I was puzzled by the U zip round behind the shoulders too. The only point that I could see was not having a stiff flat straight zip across the back, i'm sure pulling it round the back of one's neck would be a challenge.

Dry suit Zip systems.

Hi, I note that there are a number of different dry suit zip systems. My drysuit has a rear zip which normally means that I need someone to help me put it on and take it off. I had come across front zips before although for kayaking they appear (among my friends anyway) to be less common. Now there ...

Re: Cheap but strong paddle with 0 or 30 degree feathering?

Interesting, I have thought for a while now that if you are paddling with the loom vertical you do more or less feather naturally whereas if you are keeping the loon more horizontal as is of the case on the sea it would be more natural to paddle with flat blades but of course air resistance and wind...

Re: Cheap but strong paddle with 0 or 30 degree feathering?

Hi Franky, Do you paddle white water with a 0 degree feathered paddle? I have used flat paddles occasionally but it seems to me that in moving my hands to the position for a stroke on the other side I rotate the paddle shaft a little anyway. I have occasionally given new paddlers an unfeathered blad...

Re: Cheap but strong paddle with 0 or 30 degree feathering?

TNP do a basic paddle which is only £27 at our local canoe shop. I have a couple one child size and one adult. they are bit heavier than my Streamstyle and Werner ones but they are only £27 rather than £130. They seem pretty tough so far and I do have a similar TNP canoe paddle which is years old an...

If you possibly can borrow whatever type you decide on and go for a swim in it, after all the main reason to wear a BA is for times when you are not in your boat. Depending on your body shape and of course the correct fitting some BAs are not too good at staying in place when you are in the water an...

I just use a normal snood under my helmet and down over the neck seal for my wet suit. They are normally synthetic and quick draining.

Good point Simon, anglers on most river are something of a rarity and I don't think it is because they are scared they might see a paddler. That said as others have posted on some of these wilder rivers they few who do fish them seem prepared to pay huge amounts to do it so the fishery owners presum...

I wonder if now that so many paddlers are using our legal right to paddle all rivers that we can get to perhaps the Angling trust feel they have nothing to loose by taking legal action. If they loose things stay much as they are with those paddlers who are currently running rivers which anglers woul...
