Re: Bantham rescue

I phoned the RNLI today to ask for more details on this incident. Specifically, I was interested to learn why the equipment carried by the paddler had hampered the rescue efforts, and what type of kayak was being used, in view of the comments regarding difficulty in righting. I spoke with a senior l...

Re: Expedition style drysuits

I know it's not marketed as an Exped suit but the Nookie Assassin should be considered, especially if high breathability is desired. I've had one for over two years now and it's a great suit. Not loads of pockets but I tend to use my BA for this as I find it tricky getting stuff out of a chest pocke...

Re: nookie bamboo

Regarding the Nookie Bamboo material, I've had an Assassin Drysuit for over two years now. It was subject to some tailoring to suit my requirements (prosthetic leg) but other than that it came straight off the shelf. I reckon I'm pretty hard on my kit as inevitably I fall over a lot more than most (...

WANTED Sweet Cheeks and Happy Seat

Looking for Jackson Sweek Cheeks 150/200 and Happy Seat to improve the outfitting in my sea kayak. I'm an amputee paddler and need to get locked in better than my current arrangement. Not sure how well they will work and no-one has got them around my way to test this idea out. Hope someone can help ...

Cote Vermeille(France)/Costa Brava(Spain)

Any sea paddlers in that area during September/October this year who fancy a meet up? Maybe Argeles/Port Vendres/Banyuls/Llanca.

Re: Advice on Contact Tows!

I'd recommend taking a look at Jeff Allen's ThrowTow - I use it and can honestly say it's an excellent bit of kit. It can be used for every conceivable tow choice, plus as a drogue and a tow line. As a short contact tow it's perfect and can be deployed in less than 5 seconds. It has the benefit of b...

Try www.classic-sailing.co.uk It's exactly what they specialise in. Experts in coastal flora and fauna, classic yachts, good food.

I have no commercial relationship with them but I do know them and they deliver great experiences. Talk to Adam, Debbie or Diggory.

Re: Extreme Sport Research

With due deference and regard to all the previous expert posts on this topic, we may wish to think twice about allowing sea kayaking to be considered approaching an extreme sport for one good reason - at the moment insurance companies do not (in general) consider it high risk and provide cover witho...

Re: I need just one leg of a drysuit/trousers!

First of all, many thanks for all the suggestions of how else I can do it. For the record, I'm an above-knee amputee so wearing the prosthesis full-time inside a drysuit would make a re-entry or self rescue very difficult, and inadvisable according to considerably more experienced sea coaches than I...

Re: I need just one leg of a drysuit/trousers!

Thanks Journeyman but the leg needs to wear the waterproofing just like a normal human, so a drybag isn't going to do it. Otherwise I'll be taking it out of the bag as soon as I try to stand up and put it on in surf then the leg is soaked. Difficult concept for most two-legged people to grasp I know...

why do you feel there will not be enough room as there's more than enough space else where for your mutli day kit Chas C thanks for the advice. Won't bore you with long explanation, suffice to say I'm above knee, the prosthetic is 1 metre long/6 kilos, the Cetus has a pod that encroaches into the c...

WANTED - Right Leg of Drysuit or Dry Trousers

Hi Folks I'm an amputee and am trying to do a DIY waterproofing of my prosthetic leg prior to a multi-day trip. Normally I wear a swim leg for kayaking which can cope with total immersion but it's pretty poor for walking or carrying, especially fully loaded kayaks up beaches. As this is an unsupport...
