Re: Pyranha Varun

Keep the blaze & go buy a G Force. That way you can still run the G4 & do more when playing.
i've got a Fun & while i haven't paddled the Varun, I would definately consider the buying a G Force to do more.

Hope thats not too confusing, Cheers Robbie C

Re: Waterproof Handheld Wind Speed Meters

Thanks for the replys. It was more because of the usual conversations that we were having once we got to Drakes Island in Plymouth Sound.
The wind was being funneled between the rocks on the island & it would have been nice to see what the local conditions actually were!

Re: River Dart Staverton Access hassles

There is another mill on the Dart at Staverton, nr the Village. That could be Town Mill. I'm sure there may have been a ford there. More likely, is that there is a right of way due to continued use. Probably when the area was part of the Dartington Estate & at least since the area was owned by the E...

Waterproof Handheld Wind Speed Meters

After a breezy trip in Plymouth Sound/Drakes Island area, I was wondering wether there were any good handheld wind speed meters that could be used in a kayak?

This assumes that I'm prepared to take my hand off my paddle (Very unlikely!).

Anyone use one or got any recommendations?

Re: River Dart Staverton Access hassles

It's a shame that the tollerance shown by previous landowners to public access when the building was still in use or when derelict & awaiting conversion has not been kept. There were the usual signs displaying the planning permission regs which at the time did not suggest that there would be barrier...

Nigel's story has now made the local paper... http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/Kayaker-injured-collision-sea/story-13428221-detail/story.html Sometimes life throws up stories that no one would make up, as it would sound too unbelievable. Hi Deadly, Yep, it's Tina's old boat & it still gets used by me in Paignton/Torbay & (Once in a blue moon) Bantham & also on the Severn last Monday. I was told by by Mick at the time that after paddling a glass boat I wouldn't go back to Plastic.... Very True! I don't know what happened with the blu...

Re: What do you surf / Post your boat?

Hi Dessie, Glad you like it! I got it 2nd hand through a friend who was in the Teignmouth club years & years ago.... I believe it's carbon hull with a glass deck. What you can't really see is the hull is not white but a real light green, a nice touch. It's a gorgeous boat but I really don't paddle i...

Re: A video demonstrating why surfers (justifiably) hate us.

Well, what can I add? Only 4* bore at a reasonable weekend time this year & this was the best place to try & catch it at the weekend. Too many short boats on the water for a wave that needs something atleast like an RPM? It's not that steep except close to the bank. Don't take an inflatable double, ...

Re: Mega Surf Kayak Identification.

Can anyone confirm wether my guess was correct?

Also, Is it possible to get a older boat like a jester returned to a factory condition by Mega?
The front foam is coming unglued where it meets the hull.

Any advice cos I really like my boat.

Re: What Paddle do I want?

Try some paddles - it's the only way to decide. I've always liked Robson paddles, Robson greens for surfing & playing, ideal for lots of quick stroke but for bigger boat stuff, Robson Pogo's. They feel much stiffer than the Werners that I have borrowed from friends & I prefer them. Cheaper too. But ...

Re: What's wrong with 'South West Sea Kayaking'?

Worth mentioning that the car park on the beach at Porthallow, the Lizard, is community run. It mentions kayakers in the sign about paying to park. It's only a couple of quid to park. Maybe they see lots of people launching & using the location without a contribution that goes towards the upkeep of ...

Hi, Thatchers rock can be landed on from the side you can't see from the shore... It's a breeding site for seabirds & so go there after the birds have bred... After July? That way they won't be disturbed while nesting. Other than that... it smells of bird poo & the soil is very loose, so climbing up...
