Re: Anodised Carabiners - any point?

http://dmmclimbing.com/knowledge/anodising-vid/

So there is a point to it, I'd guess. That said, it has never affected my choice when buying them. Avoid steel karabiners, obviously and yes - it's usually the spring mechanism that seizes up if not given enough attention.

Re: Leadership articles

Thanks - I'm very grateful for all the input! I wrote something similar for my dissertation at uni. The crux of it was that with experience, outdoor instructors moved from being overly shouty (dictator) to taking a step back and facilitating instead. Probably for the reasons you've mentioned. In ter...

Re: Leadership articles

Thanks for the feedback (had some good messages as well). I think I'll write something else with the suggestions made to tie it all together.

Leadership articles

I've written a series of articles on leadership principles that I hope will be of use to anybody going for the 4 star award. I think I write in a quite a prescriptive style, but anything there is open to debate :) http://iboutdoor.wordpress.com/2014/01/03/river-leadership-communication/ http://ibout...

Fabric repairs

Here's a bore of a question... I'm after a needle and thread to be able to stitch kit back together on my travels. Ebay has, however, suggested that there is more than one type of needle and thread in existence and that's where my knowledge ends. I'm after something I can use to stitch neoprene and ...

Is this for you, or is it an essay question you've been set? Genuinely asking, as it'll help us, help you. I was asked something very similar at interview once and launched in to listing responsibilities: "student centred learning," "dynamic risk assessments," "Identify TTPP weaknesses etc" when the...

Re: Karnali Logistics

I went as a kayaker on a commercial rafting trip with Paddle Nepal. We stopped to buy chickens and dried fish from the locals and the raft guides fished along the way as well. I imagine that your ability to buy food will be greatly increased by having a Nepali in your group. Fire wood was easy to ge...

Re: boat modding

I've heard of plenty of topos and the like that have been heated and squashed to make more playable. As for cutting them though, I think you'd have to be spot on with the weld, or it would forever be bursting open. Having said that, there was a pic of a fluid playboat on the nile that someone had ra...

In need of a favour please. If anybody has a 199cm AT paddle, could you measure the distance between the cranks for me please. Looking at getting a custom paddle made at the minute. Thanks.

If you liked this, Mr Manby's "Run River Run" would probably also be of interest. I got a copy for Christmas and am glued to it.

Whats actually going on though?

Rainchasers shows the Dart to be low, whereas the BBC and weather forecasts suggest that it should be BIG. Surely it can't drop off that fast?
