Interesting all the positive comments about VE. Out of interest, the bulge / pocket on the rear of the blade - are you not aware of that when doing sculling or similar strokes ? Im no paddle designer but would have instinctively thought a smooth surface to be better ? (Notwithstanding the need to st...

Re: Which kayak .....I'm 18 stone

As it happens, my XcapeX is now for sale. 2011 boat, well used and with the usual scratches and scrapes from lots of lovely adventures. No structural damage though, and comes with a Silva compass and fittings for deck-mounted tow gear. £700. Sounds like an excellent price and perfect for the larger...

Re: Roofrack advice please

Personally I would be much more worried about the strength of the roof fixings / rails than any rack I chose to fit to it. A few years ago we were car shopping and I decided to give the roof rails on an estate car a bit of a wobble in the showroom and was met with concern by the salesman who was wor...

Re: wanted Kari-tek easy load in the north of england or scotland

OK, your call but there is absolutely no difference between the 180 and the 130 that cant be resolved by 10 mins with a hacksaw / angle grinder. :-) Something to bare in mind is that the wider the bars when on the roof, the lower they will come down the side of the van once lowered potentially makin...

Re: Roofrack advice please

The extended V bar supports are more about supporting long, often lightweight boats near their ends than offering any better weight distribution on the car roof, which you cannot really do much about. For the 2 boats you have, I would suggest that neither is likely to flex significantly on the narro...

Re: wanted Kari-tek easy load in the north of england or scotland

I have one in Edinburgh that will be coming up for sale in the near future for a lot less than the cost of a new one. (Subject to me managing to fit a new HLRR I just bought !). Its 180cm wide and intended for high sided vehicles but can easily be cut down to suit something lower / narrower. I also ...

There was no sign of the paddle when the camera was showing the RIB which got the paddler out of the water.
Interestingly, the paddle was in the kayak as it was recovered from the water.

Re: Tent with a big porch?

Unfortunately out of your price range but we have the Terra Nova Quasar ETC which we use for 2 of us on kayak trips and it works well for us. Its exactly the same inner as the standard, highly respected, Quasar but with 1 extra pole and larger porch. And, because there is the smaller porch at the ot...

Re: Rotating J-Cradles on roof bar

If you want to put the boats on the roof hull-down, there are dedicated V bars available. However, the general consensus is that boats are stronger and less likely to deform on their edge where there is less surface area and where the seam is. As above, if they are not sitting square in the J bar, m...

Interesting comment re battery indicator. I previously had an ICOM M71 which had the facility for a battery charge check every time you switched it on and was excellent.
