Re: RIVER MEDWAY (Tonbridge to Allington)

Thanks very much for mending this. For the medium and longer term is it possible to consider the way that the chevrons are attached ? This has now happened once on one of the most recently equipped canoe chutes, if the others use the same system then are we not likely to face similar issues again so...

Re: RIVER MEDWAY (Tonbridge to Allington)

Hi We are pretty sure that the damage occurred at East Lock , but it just possible that it was Oak. It was very close to the bottom of the chute possibly towards the right hand side. I will talk to the others and try to get a more precise location We were running from Tonbridge down to Yalding , and...

Re: Medway canoe Chutes

Beware There is an underwater obstruction in the canoe chute at West or Oak locks. A club trip last weekend showed damage on most boats . This is presumably a piece of reinforcing bar that has broken loose and could be a hazard for a swimmers (albeit unlikely anyone would choose to swim a chute. Reg...

Re: Thule Roof Bar advice

John As others have said the claims for this "winged" bar are only relevant if you are planning to run with the bars in place and no other load. The best way to save fuel and noise from the bars is to remove every time you don't have a load on. If you do that then it makes sense to buy the cheapest ...

Re: Closed cell foam question

Hi
Pyranha sell it , but a rather small piece is quite expensive.
I found an alternative here www.canoesandkayaks.co.uk
£14.99 for a 200cm x 20 cm roll of 6 mm.
I think that should be enough to outfit any boat.

Re: Exe/Barle... anyone been ill?

Hi
As promised I have checked both our party and the Regents Canoe Club party and no-one appears to have suffered any issues.

I do hope the affected paddler makes a full recovery.

Was this a case of full blown leptospirosis?

Regards

Hi Sorry to hear of the problem, Meridian Canoe Club ran a Barle trip last weekend, and to the best of my knowledge we have not had any issues (but I will check at our pool session tonight and in the pub afterwards) We also met a group from Regents Canoe Club at the Dulverton get in on Sunday , I wi...

Some paddling shops will give good advice too.
I agree those that stock the full range are generally pretty good , but I don't think that you are going to find many salespeople at Brookbank recommending Pyranha products

Re: Online Msc Kayaking Dissertation Research

Hi I did find some of the questions a little strange eg: "Do I think white water kayaking says a lot about me" (or similar wording) . I think I understood the meaning behind the question and therefore answered accordingly, but the format did seem somewhat odd. Regarding rivers paddled I do keep a lo...

Graham On the tidal Thames rats are probably more common, but the salt water tends to help. ( Could someone with medical knowledge explain why please? Just curious, and I don't believe everything I read in Wikipedia etc) As a coach I always introduce beginners to the need to watch out for the sympto...

All the very best for the trip.
All of the hastle will be forgotten as soon as you get on the river and start to have fun.
I hope you can run most of it and avoid lengthy portages with all your gear.
I am green with envy.

Re: Wondering about good places to go for Uni weekend trips.

Try the Usk and Wye around Brecon/Builth Wells area.
There is plenty of water suitable for beginners at Grade II and III , not much IV for the hard paddlers though.
Also plenty of good bunkhouses.

Andy

PS we drive there from SE London , from Leicester it would be a doddle.

Allen
I have sent an objection on behalf of paddlers from Meridian Canoe Club. Admittedly we are a little distant and therefore less likely to be affected, but we do regard this as the thin end of a wedge that is likely to become more of an issue over time.

Paul This is an excellent trip in almost any sort of canoe or kayak , a sea kayak would be great. You will need to split it up into sections , and take your time about it. There are places where you can camp on the river bank, and others where you will need to use an "official" campsite. My own favo...

I am sure that one of our local clubs (WAM) has a trip planned to the Barle that weekend , they have booked local accommodation, and have normally about 25 paddlers on such trips. I have frequently seen more than 60 paddlers at Dulverton when there have been university clubs and others on the same d...

Heather ,
Must it be a 1.4 Fabia , I know of a very good 07 plate 1.2 which has done very little mileage and the owners are close to selling privately . Based not too far away from you, in SE London as well.

Great that you will be taking the open, think Baz might be tempted to do similar, BUT we will need to think about space on the van for them.
