A couple of other thoughts - several companies are now owned by conglomerates that need to make more profit to cover their costs than the original owners (who started up for the love of the sport).

& 20 years ago most outdoor centres used low spec ww boats - now many are using sit on tops & SUPs...

With every product there is a "sweet spot" price where you make the most profit - too cheap & you don't make enough money, too expensive & you don't sell enough units... It does depend when & what you start with.

The cheaper boats are using old moulds that otherwise would be on the scrap heap, so do cost the manufacturer less.

Like for like the prices probably have followed inflation, although lowest nowadays are slightly less as production methods are generally better. Most products are either made from more expensive materials (paddles & composite boats) or require more man-hours per boat for outfitting, or stitching on...

GPS doesn't always work in the hills as you may be shielded from the satellites that are circling over the equator. Or it may not have had a GPS receiver:

As they are glacially formed many rivers in Norway seem to have sections of gr1 & of gr6. Sweden has much more scope for multi day easy runs - so depends where in the country the wedding is...

River kayakers have tried it for underwater pin situations, but it proved almost impossible to get the tube in their mouths in violently turbulent situations. Anyway, you have enough oxygen to be submerged for quite a long time, it is your body trying to get rid of CO2 that makes you want to breath...
