Re: Have I Missed Something...

On a different note, it is illegal to drink drive, is it illegal to drink horse ride? I understand there was a case brought against a drunk rider, whose horse was taking them home perfectly safely after hunting. However, the horse was deemed to be "in charge", therefore the rider could not be drunk...

They might well be on the rocks midstream just above the bridge at the get-out.
Saw some yellow paddles there.

As a safety thing, they want you to have 2 star minimum for going offshore, but will help you get it. Bearing in mind, rescuing each other quickly if necessary is quite important on the sea!

Our club used to help out at the Adur Bathtub Race as safety cover.
This was stopped after the usual small bags of flour thrown at participants (and safety cover) had stones in them a few years ago. As far as I am aware the race hasn't been run since?

Have a look once the water goes off: we've found lost paddles twice. Once near where it was lost on the lower, the other time river right by the campsite wave after losing above the graveyard!

Re: Newbie at Cardiff Whitewater

I did my first session at Cardiff yesterday, but I have paddled the Legacy at Lee Valley already. I found 4 cumecs do-able, it started out fairly quiet at 9:30, but by 11:30 was pretty busy. The 4 cumecs session is used by rafts of mainly kids: they do tend to block the main features for quite a whi...

Re: Suggestions for Female Friendly Kayak Please

I have a Zet Veloc, and love it. I used to paddle a L'il Joe and would say that the seat area in the Veloc is much the same! The L'il Joe was a more exacting boat for grade 3, whereas the Veloc looks after me better. There is less extra volume around the cockpit, possibly making the Veloc easier to ...

Re: Trip Insurance.

I'd be surprised if insurance from your bank would cover kayaking in the Alps? I've been reading the small print a lot recently, as we're also off to the Alps. Most non-specialist policies don't cover WW kayaking. I also need cover for a medical problem, and looked at several specialist medical poli...

Re: Paddling OCD's!

I used to put my noseclip on before grade 3ish stuff before, then I was banned from doing so by a well-respected coach (thanks Chris!), so I now find I tend to do my ratchets up a bit more each time. End up really tight in my boat by the last rapid of the day, but at least I can breathe normally! Ja...

I've paddled several times at the back of the group (both flatwater and sea), and agree that it is not a pleasant place to be. As described above, you catch up hoping for a rest, and everyone sprints off, leaving you at the back again. If I am leading a group on the Adur, I will always make sure the...

Re: Has the bottom dropped out of the second hand kayak mark

Two problems with the used market. The prices people offer for boats are obscenely low. The prices that owners often ask is often obscenely high! One problem is that, if you were to put something on here at what you think is a reasonable price, others will try to beat you down so much that you end ...

I looked at the information a week or two ago, but there didn't seem to be any coached sessions: Dave and I have used DartFest and Rivers Source for this reason only over the last year. It would be over a 500 mile round trip from Sussex, and having had the release cancelled on Easter Sunday with no ...

As a follow-up to Steve's post, Adur CC don't charge any hire fees for use of kayaks or canoes. We have a good range of kayaks including one each of small/medium and large slalom kayaks. Also have paddles, basic cags and BA's people can use.

I'm 5'0" and weigh slightly more than you. I used to paddle a L'il Joe, but found it quite bulky around the cockpit, so difficult to roll, and wanted to step up to a full creeker. Demoed the Fluid Solo S but found it very spinny (possibly due to displacement hull and amount of rocker), but roll went...
