Re: WANTED COURSE: instructor training/leadership

Please be aware, that the update of 4 & 5 Star coming down the line are a more guiding qualification in terms of leadership. Where the candidate will evaluate the other paddlers in their group, as to where they will paddle. It's certainly a more formal leadership role, and a step change from the cu...

Re: Kit Reunited!

There was a story on here a while ago of someones helmet cam that had gone through the pumps at a white water course (think it was HPP but can't remember). The camera was found a few weeks later when they had truned the pumps off to reset the course Can't find the video on youtube but maybe someone...

I notice from the photo above that gloves are being worn: do we need to provide our own? The 27th Oct lower Dart version talks about cloth gloves: not sure that's going to be particularly protective! As a healthcare worker, concerned about cuts/ needlestick-type injuries! Don't suppose Tavistock is ...

Re: ICE ICE Baby - would this save your life?

My medical ID from ICEGEMS (worn at all times around my neck ie under drysuit) came with a free dogtag which is on the front pocket zip tag of my BA. Spotted at once by a med student (BUKE paddler) who paddled with my local club. People I paddle with are made aware as necessary of my particular circ...

I've known of friends pass the assessment, then not be able to get on the Olympic for another 3 hours.
Not sure extra time can be booked in anticipation of passing, but might be worth enquiring.

Just wondering: is the Rambler a ski version of the Wanderer, and is that also safe for WW kayaking? I also have a small head, and am currently wearing a Happy2Be which needs replacing. WRSI have taken over the H2B moulds apparently, so might look at the Trident, but was hoping for better coverage f...

Hi Lora May I belong to Adur Canoe Club . We have one or two lads who are keen on freestyle, and a fairly active WW bunch of paddlers. Lee Valley WWC is a favourite for peer visits: the Legacy is good for training skills, and rescues are usually done by fellow ACC members, or other paddlers. You cou...

One of the sea paddles I did along the south coast finished in Rustington. Over the last 500 or so yards, I was encouraged by the sight of an ice cream van waiting on the seafront. Unfortunately it drove off just as we landed :-(

Well done Ben and team. My experience is that the casualty rarely says thank you (they are too shocked or embarrassed) and of course the Rescue Services normally get all the credit. So great to see you getting the credit that your team all deserve and as a little thank you and for PR services to th...

I recognise that assessor: he is a bit scruffy in the last vid. I don't remember sartorial elegance from my assessment on the Legacy! He also has the habit of calling out to you on later visits (while he's doing someone else's assessment) "Hey Janet" just as you're concentrating hard on your next mo...

Re: Are Kayakers 2nd Class Citizens at Lee Valley?

I posted the following on Lee Valleys facebook page I do understand that the rafting pays the bills, but do we kayakers really have to be made to feel like 2nd rate citizens? I wouldn't mind either having to pop out to the car to store kit OR leave the car a long way away, but to be made to do both ...

I've used a she-wee for stops on river trips a few times. Guys: advised not to read further!! The relief zip in my Typhoon suit is fairly well situated, however the she-wee seems rather short. I discovered that the plastic tubing taken off a WW throwline bag (removed as recommended on WWSR) is a per...

Portsmouth and District Canoe Club are local to you. They are mainly a sea kayaking club, but have training sessions on Monday evenings. Might be worth contacting PeterG on here. Re: To swap or not to swap? That is the question.

Watching the GB selections back in April, it was noticeable that quite a few of the women paddlers were swapping sides. This generally was done as they were going down the feature so that they could set up for a break-out for an upstream gate in the eddy. It was talked about on the PA, and I seem to...
