Re: Artificial courses

I love paddling & walking in Wales, Dartmoor etc. - no desire to live there though!! I like phone signal, broadband speeds in the hundreds, not having to drive more than 2 minutes to a superstore and a million other things about where I live now thanks! Quite happy to visit & contribute - by which ...

Re: Slovenia end of July, any water?

Brilliant place for grade 2/3 and some 4, cheap cost of living and lots of outdoor stuff to do off the water. We hired a chalet for six which made it as cheap as camping. Make a road trip of getting to and from the Soca valley. I'll be there for my seventh year on the trot this June. A German or pos...

Re: New helmet- what to buy?

Agree that black is not a very visible colour, looking at what you need a helmet for then surely safety of your head is the first and possibly only important criteria. As discussed above Sweet are the market leaders and I love my Rocker, worth every penny as I only have one head and it's the most im...

What type of paddling are you doing? I know people who have two piece splits that fit in the back of their boat with the airbag trapping them in.

Re: The in-betweeners - frustrations of an intermediate

I share your frustrations, I am a regular Dart Loop paddler but the step up to the Upper Dart seems beyond me, fear and anxiety abound. Perhaps we should change houses for a period!!!! I'm not bored of the Loop per se but yearn to step my paddling up a little in a positive way. If you fancy coming t...

Re: Should I paddle with people who don't belong to a Club

Paddle who you feel comfortable with, it's not about stars and grades they've run or clubs there in. Are they safe, can you trust them in a sticky situation and do you have fun with them on and off the water.

Re: Oh dear

Am I missing something here but there are lots of things you can buy cheaply like bicycles and then you can be let loose on the road which can be far more dangerous than being on the water. Go Outdoors sells climbing gear cheaply and people can chuck themselves off rock faces. Some people will alway...

Re: Beginner wants to learn to roll a kayak

Liam's sessions on rolling are ace, thoroughly recommended. As a member of one of the two clubs in Plymouth I believe we can help but we don't specifically just teach rolling, we would take you on a progression to becoming a safe paddler. Knowing the other club in Plymouth well, they are also in thi...

Re: Dry trousers

I have a pair of Sweet long legged shorts which are very nice for the warmer months, summer Soca/Alps boating season etc. so dry trousers are what I'm after, they don't have to be bone dry as in the cold weather it's dry suit time for this old boy.

WW SOUTHERN ALPS GUIDEBOOK I'll give the obvious answer which is the Guidebook for the Southern Alps available at most kayak stores, AS Watersports stock them so you can get them on an internet sale. For the roads Michelin do a good map of this region around Briancoand the Durance valley and neighb...
