Unusual occurence at Holne Bridge

When we driving back from Newbridge this afternoon towards Holne Bridge there was a 4x4/Jeep type car in the layby and the guy in the car took a photo of our car (three boats on the roof) as we turned onto Holne Bridge. I should have stopped and asked what he was doing but I was cold and homeward bo...

Just as an update, have just done the Loop and the level is 6 inches below the slab at Newbridge and it is brrrr cold. Awesome day as no-one was on the river.

I presume this group who were so concerned about the reduction in spawning were checking the excess sewage that was getting into the river which I more sure has more of an impact that some paddlers.

Funny as a developing paddler, I get the same feeling when doing the Loop especially when its quiet. I'm looking forward to someday raising the bar and doing the Upper.

River Tavy

There is a tree right across the whole river within half a mile downstream of the Tavistock town weir just as you go around the corner. Be very carful out there.

As i was in the area on Wednesday I dropped into Hurley to have a look at the weir but I guess I was on the "wrong side" of the river. I parked in Hurley Village and walked onto the South Bank of the River. I saw two weirs on the opposite bank which I presume one of them to be "Hurley". How do I get...

Just as an update on the Dart levels as I was driving past today, it is over the ledge at Newbridge by about 6 inches (male measurement of course) at noon!!!!! It was also lashing it down so expect the river to be good for the weekend as more is forecast.

Big water is not good news for everyone as it can rule out paddling when above our skill level, I'm working on improving.

I have had a similar problem and I have successfully used the supports at the link. They have been brilliant and the condition has almost gone away as I only get slight twinges. If doing a longer paddle then I will wear them as a precaution.

So does this condoning of the behaviour aligns us Paddlers with English Football fans, I hope not. It seems it is acceptable in this country to misbehave with alcohol - "Everyone does it don't they" or "Just having fun, lighten up".

If I may be bold as to draw a line under the incident at the RDCP. What about the parking issue at Holne Bridge surely £3 per car or £25 for the season is no great shakes. How much to see a movie, football match, rugby game etc and they offer the same amount of fun and excitement? This penny pinchin...

Use or lose it, springs to mind over not paying a couple of quid to park in the RDCP. Misbehaviour in the accomodation is more difficult, as it may be difficult to trace who did what and when. I guess the owners will not stand this for much longer before we lose the facility.

Sorry Mad Hatter most humble apologies but that still makes only 350 club members for Plymouth that still leaves just less than 6K unaccounted for, an awful lot of sit on tops and once a year paddlers.

Paddling numbers - where are they

In this months Paddles magazine, it quoted 1.5 million UK participating paddlers in UK which I think came from the BCU. That is approx 2.5% of the whole population (60million). This equates to 6250 paddlers in my home town of Plymouth (pop 250K). Our club and the only club in the city has less than ...

So we just went for a nice Saturday paddle on the Lower Tavy and our friendly lawyer just had to turn up and lecture us on what we are doing wrong.
