Not sure if you are a grade 5 boater but definitely ballsy. Watched some of the guys go down it on Saturday and it is steep, tricky, technical and dangerous.

Re: Secret Society Canoe Clubs

As a club committee member who would hope we are an open club that are approachable by new members coming into our area, it's as people say run by volunteers who do put a lot of effort into running many types of sessions. We have approx 160 members of which approx 25% are WW paddlers and we do post ...

How about Jackson's Happy Feet on the link below

Happy Feet

I have not used them as I am one of those six footers but on the ones I've seen seem to fill the front end of the boat.

I think its a good DVD and offers another method and help with rolling, it does not claim to be anything more or less.

Re: Yes, but did you catch that eddy?

Being able to slow your absolute speed down the river without losing boat speed is pivotal to carrying momentum through the white water features to stay on line is. What does this mean? I paddle two sorts of days, peer and club paddle and on both both days generally make one trip per day. So to mak...

Re: are the kids alright?

So as a club coach who has children/youths brought to the club by parents what do we do to progress them/keep them interested/enthuse them? We have six 12-16 year olds who have had approx 6 trips on WW this winter season,we are keen they get into the sport. It would be awesome if there was somewhere...

Re: Yes, but did you catch that eddy?

You can witness the glorified ferry gliding contest on the gravy yard on any given weekend day when there is a release. Where the refinement of catching the smallest of micro eddies is honed, shame its of little use when the river'a have water in them. When the micro eddy turning technique is appli...

Re: Dart Access

Pete Can I make a suggestion in that the egress at Moghul's Palace can be done a little differently, our club have run a number of Novice/Intro trips recently. Do not go over the gate or the fence, the boats can be extracted to the road in two methods: A. Using a sling lift the boats from the bridge...

South West River Clean up 2013

Many thanks to Mark Allen for organising the River Clean ups yesterday where approximately 100 boaters cleaned up 3 sections of the Dart, the Erme, The Taw and the Barle. It would have been the Exe but the river was too high as the weirs can be nasty. A great effort by all and some paddlers some cam...

Re: Conwy falls rescue

All the above arguments assume everyone who paddles this section of the Conwy reads UKRGB or has a copy of the guidebook? They F'ed up for sure but they have come on here and FB and said so and apologised, fair one. What to do and the learning from experience is the important bit.

Lancs lad I can see that by un friending the ones you aspire to can blot out the stuff you are missing but it must also inspire you to go country X or river Y. I also read blogs, like yours and think if only I can paddle here or there or everywhere but having it all is not necessarily the answer, ca...

Toilet at New Bridge vandalised again

Hi Folks I was up on the Dart this morning (Thursday) and the men's toilet at New Bridge car park has been smashed to pieces. I was there on Wednesday and they were fine, I do not think this is paddler related but will affect paddlers, walkers and anyone using this area, blooming numpties. I know pa...

Hey I came to kayaking in my 50's and have just turned 61, don't think of what you have missed or what might have been but think about the runs you have done and are going to do. You want children and they are a blessing and it sounds to me you are cramming a huge amount into your life. You can't ch...

I dont buy into paddling or grips should be a specific way, or exact torso rotation, I see all sorts of paddlers using allsorts of grips and feathered paddles styling the river, even up to Professional standard like Ben Marr and the Slalom paddler. I am a roofer and use a hammer all day, I use a co...

Re: Tavy pollution

Let's be honest all inland towns do what Tavistock does when the river levels are high. Most of our WW rivers are the upper reaches and generally small population areas, there are no major towns on the three sections of the Dart we run and so sewage is less of an issue. The Teign, Erme, Plym, Middle...

Could it be sweat as it would tend to run down your arms. I have had water in the same place when open canoeing in winter when my suit has been almost dry.
