As your taking such care of your ropes I would suggest giving them to your friends when you paddle as that way you will get the benefit!

Re: New Waka Tuna?

There is a short video on waka's Facebook page of the tuna being tested on the kaituna, doesn't give a great look at the boat but it looks like the deck has been smoothed out.
Hopefully it will be available soon as I am in the market for a new boat!

I can't see your height being an issue at all, velocity looks really nice but definitely try it first as I found zets have quite a wide knee position.

Re: East Lyn rafting

I would question the link between a rafter and me in my kayak? If some folk go canyoning, or kids build a rope swing and swim does that affect my right to paddle too? Access to the lyn and in particular brendon has in my view nothing to do with protecting fish or the environment it's about locals wa...

Re: Unwell after paddling - any advice?

A can of coke is useless, diet coke even more so. You need at least a litre of full fat coke, the real McCoy no cheap imitations and guzzle the whole lot.
Then stand tall mouth open and wait for it, don't force it, enjoy letting out that belch of satisfaction and crack on with life.

Hope that helps.

I don't really know! I think it was the large but I am going to have ring them and ask.
In my head I always think I need/want the smaller sized boat but after my 9r experience I'm not so sure!

Re: Another which boat thread?

Seeing as I started this thread I thought I would give you my opinions having just demo'd a few boats at CIWW running at 10 cumecs. First off a big thanks to Canoe and Kayak at CIWW, what a great service I paddled 4 boats giving them all 3 to 4 runs down the course for a tenner! First the Toro, good...

Another which boat thread?

After paddling a Mk1 Burn since 2010 a new boat is imminent and I intend to demo myself to death but its not always possible with the boats like the tuna for example. I paddle mainly in Devon and S.Wales grade 4 with the annual trip to Italy but always hoping the ferry to Norway rumour eventually co...

Campertogno has bed and breakfast accommodation as well as large sheds which are self catering, facilities are good with a restaurant on site.
You will need to book early as Gene17 book a lot for their guests.

Re: Stepping up grades

For me it's about doing the exact same strokes under greater pressure due to greater consequences, so it's mostly in the mind. I remember a committing section where the line was 8ft wide so I asked myself can I put my boat in that 8ft channel. The very high levels, boils, fast flowing water and cush...

Re: Palm Gradient Boots

I very much doubt they will fit your playboat.
I use an older version of the gradient for river paddling and wear a Kevlar reinforced neoprene sock like the "stomp" for playboating as the more rigid sole of the gradient wont flex enough inside my Jackson to be comfortable.

If the footplate is too far away you could just glue a foam block to the existing plate.

Re: First time in Italy Advice

I wouldn't recommend going so early if you could go the last week of may your more likely to have better weather more consistent levels and more paddlers around which would help a first timer. The rivers are committing and quite different from the UK so take your time and build up slowly. Being with...

Re: Cutting weight from Mamba 8.1

Don't drill any holes, it will make no considerable difference to the weight and only reduce the boats strength and resale value. I think your options are to either put up with it or sell it, its just the way dagger boats are, well made or over engineered depends on whose carrying it I suppose. Rega...

Re: Upper Dart High Water - Scary?

"Hard" and "scary" are down to the individual, "high" is measurable although very debatable!! My advice would be to get on with paddlers who are comfortable at the high level, if you feel scared then that's fine, normal in fact. If your fear is negatively affecting your ability to paddle i.e unable ...

I remember when we all (westgarth included) ran the upper dart in playboats but times change, the creek boat was born and then then after probably after a visit to Mc D manufacturers went large which I don't think was ever designed with uk rivers in mind. In your position I would go and buy secondhand and probably a burn as there easy to paddle and there are lots about as they are popular boats. There all good boats and you could learn/adjust to paddle any of them. If your used to paddling a flat bottom boat with edges then look for those features in your creek boat as it will make the cross over easier. Also consider where you are going to paddle it as there are some really big boats out t...
