Re: Level 5 dissertations

The new company don't offer any cover for paid coaches unless they are working under their own name and so is not like for like insurance. We now have to pay £800 per year for a complete insurance package, when we used to be ok up to a turnover of 25K. The reason for the change? So that they can ru...

Re: Level 5 dissertations

It is a real shame that Level 5 projects are not catalogued, for a number of reasons. First and foremost, part of the supposed point of the Level 5 project is to "further the knowledge-base of coaching within the UK" - or words to that effect. Secondly, what an amazing resource that information woul...

Your EHIC card expires… did you know that?

Today I happened to notice that my EHIC has expired. Luckily it expired just after the end of my last European tour, so I've not been without, but could easily have been. When I mentioned it to a few friends they also hadn't realised, so before the Spring season starts up perhaps you should check yo...

Re: New Dagger Mamba 8.1

Just spent a month paddling the Mamba 8.1 in Colombia and I genuinely love it. The extra tail volume helps gives it loads of stability and helps it push through holes really well. Even when I loaded mutliday gear in the back, the boat handled really well. I urge people to get a go in a demo to see h...

Directly, no we've avoided any problems though it totally depends where you go. When we went further into the mountains we were warned to make sure we were back in civilisation by dark, especially as we are a team of 3 females and only one guy. Sadly this does have some baring on how safe we might b...

Indeed, a dampener helps to stop the rope and all attached metal-work twanging back at you if the rope snaps, or your attachment point on the kayak fails (usually more likely). You are right, we didn't have one on there and probably should have. We had a backpack / dry bag there and could easily hav...
