Re: Deck Slates.

Colin, I can copy the Koydart one, I teach CorelDRAW at school and that's a standard Printer's software, so no worries there. I'll email him, he normally works on how many to fit on a sheet as that's the main cost. He will laser cut them and they will have small radiussed corners to ease picking off...

If there is interest, I know a printer who can make these up for probably less than a pound plus postage.

Post a reply if anyone is interested

Re: Opinions on kneeling saddles

Have you a canoe with a front seat that you can sit on facing backwards, so you will be near the centre yoke ? I sit on my seat like that and tuck my legs under the seat so it's more comfortable than a kneeling thwart and when you don't need so much connectivity, you can sit and lift a leg up. You c...

Ta, looks like a good DVD. You should make a WW Open and Open Skills DVD as there has be none really since the wee bit with Dave R across Rannoch moor.

Re: White Water Safety DVD

Looks like that excerpt was at Grandtully ? Interesting way to rig a swim line. Not clear from the excerpt but he grabbed the free end of the throwbag and it looked 'krab clipped' on to the drilled rope loop on the end of the boat ? Which is different to the way it was shown in the first segment. An...

So they will have no Pyranha stable Opens for Demo ?

All my dealings with Brookbank Perth has been excellent for personal and school paddling kit. Was maybe going to demo some opens for a fleet for school, if I get another grant.

Re: Star Awards

But you could argue that "Teaching" and "Coaching" are different beasts entirely - I always take coaching to be more participatory, with lots of practical examples and lots of EDIP (Explanation, Demonstration, Imitation, Practice) whereas I see Teaching as more "theory" based. Just a thought... C Y...

I'm a teacher and think qualified teachers should be able to show personal competence eg 3 star then get a coach award at the appropriate level. Re: Star Awards

I think the whole system is very broken. I am a teacher. I have paddled for about 30 years and would consider myself to be very competent in both canoe and kayak. I am in the process of going through the award system so that I can take some school kids paddling. Years and years ago I was what used ...

orange and T Mobile are now combined and that's increased my coverage. I was up Glencoe and got an intermittent signal but had a good signal on the summits of the ridge, even though they are out of coverage according to the map, but line of sight at a high point obviously helps. On the River Dee we ...

I have a HAIDA, a lovely deep water paddle, cuts water like a knife and very easy to link strokes, yet quite powerful.

SimonMW, Kids learn all sorts of skills at school from 'addition' to 'knife skills in vegetable preparation' ! After a couple of years they specialise and can benchmark their skills in exams etc. Star Awards are just that, awards of a particular skill set in a particular boat. They are just snapshot...

Re: Bring back the single discipline 2*

It should stay as is, limiting learners to one craft or one stroke eg turning - only show sweeps or only show draws or only show low brace turns is inappropriate. The good thing about Paddlesports is the variety. I deliberately paddle both kayak and canoe the same number of sessions then let kids pi...

Re: Election of SCA General Secretary

A "ban" is not the solution. Education is part of a solution. Fortunately, the SCA already takes a very active interest in access matters, and one SCA member in particular has been heavily involved in ensuring that a proposed ban on camping on the Luss Island did NOT take place. Mike. So it's been ...

The Iona situation is still an issue. There's a sign on Little Cumbrae asking for "donations" to land on a "private island" There's still an issue on Skye where a householder is making a nuisance of themselves for people parking. Access to the water in the Arduaine area - discussions ongoing. And t...

Can you not get a L2 course run over two weekends ? That's what my club did.

Maybe your club needs more 4 Star leaders rather than L2 coaches ? This a weekend course too.

I'm not for or against any system. But as SCA is part of BCU, it ain't changing.......

Re ACCESS

Big issue just now is the dam release SEPA programme and it's levels and timings, no WWPF etc but for normal paddlers just wanting to do more rivers. Although it's a complex issue but one river recently 'saved' after all users 'clubbing' together - the DOON.

I take my school group wherever I want, except Linlithgow Loch, to paddle as we have the right to responsible access. Very different up here, although we may not have the mass numbers as down south ? #Linlithgow Loch is exempt as it's a Queens park, although access through an Outdoor Centre there ca...
