Re: Who was on the Orchy on Good Friday?

I love old posts sometimes…nice to reflect on great paddlers who are now out exploring new things and bringing new paddlers in to the sport, and nostalgic to read posts from friends who are on to pastures new!...and everything in between… :)

Actually, I think you'll find they're not driving the boats Banzer, therefore they are stuck in the late 90's and early 00's, they clearly need to start paddling harder and more often!!

Let's not have a debate about how UKRGB should handle these things. It's hard enough already without other people thinking they can do better. No debate as far as I'm concerned. UKRGB ( or any other internet forum) should not " handle these things". Have some respect and let this thread go. It's ( ...

Re: Being guided ...

This thread saddens me somewhat, and here’s why… So thinking metaphorically if you can: I once got a slight raised nerve by a young chap saying the words “right, if anyone front surfs this wave for more than 30 seconds just go on and push them off” Said by someone many of you respect in the sport…wh...

Re: Beautiful rivers

I paddled out from inside a glacier once which was a bit special to me, but I have to say that any river where you’re on the river and paddling under an incoming waterfall always makes me feel not worthy. To me that’s what beauty is in the natural world, something that reminds you that you just don’...

Re: British kit chat - Unique? Constructive?

At some point people will learn that white water kayaking isn’t just about a 200ft drop, it’s not just about a clean helix nor is it just about running a Scottish classic river at the level its supposed to be run at. It’s not just about our names becoming recognised and it’s not just about leaving a...

Re: Building the perfect paddler...

I don't really get this thread. The perfect paddler is just a good paddler. Question is have we become impressed with mediocre crap paddlers? Rhetorical question...the answer is yes we have! So a good paddler is pretty simple and these days only comes down to three things: how much time can you comm...

I think the point, the only point is to reiterate to those who have just typed in to google "kayak forum" or such like, is that the easiest rivers can and often do kill. It's insensitive to name specific incidents but we can all name several incidents each year for the last 10+ years where a fatalit...

Definitely Huka Falls, NZ It's 'only' a 4+ but so commiting.... every time I go it's usually too high for a first attempt, or if I'm there with a boat AND it's a good level, there's no-one there to go with, and I'm not soloing it! Hahaha still loving that photo… But yeah Jim is right. If you’re not running grade 4+ > and you’re not fearing injury from the start of the river to the end of it, I can’t think of a single UK river that would need anything bigger than a playboat. Unless of course you’ve taken up this water-sport to...

Re: waterfall wedding location

We just opted for a loch-side venue as it’s easier for 30+ kayakers to arrive by flat water rather than by vertical descent (other companies are available). Also I chose a location in the heart of where there are rivers for my mates to go during the day should they wish. I can’t afford for all my gr...

Re: One Day Like This - your perfect days

Unfortunately lack of social media, un-affordable camera's and alcohol starved memories have hampered my best memories of the sport at any great level. However at a much lower level of kayaking but a much higher level of laughter I'd say: This days was great fun with lots of smiles: https://vimeo.co...
