My Shuna weighs less than a Lendal Carbon Kinetic paddle I sold, simply because I prefer the 'feel' of the Werner one.

Re: keel eazy for seams?

Keel Eazy is good for a keel strip if you apply it correctly. If you want to seal a leaky seam temporarily, use good quality gaffa tape, but it will require a resin repair to do the job properly

Re: DIY front hatch & bulkhead.

@ Simon, I used 2 x layers carbon fibre and 5 x layers 200gm glass cloth with black tinted epoxy resin. The hardest part was glassing the surrounds from the inside to the boat working blind, so I used a few cheap mirrors and lights to see what I was doing. As the hatches are the biggest ones availab...

Re: DIY front hatch & bulkhead.

Here's a link to my retro build hatches to my cedar strip boat. http://bluggery.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/new-hatches.html Now I have nice big waterproof hatches I am happy, but it was a pig of a job, which would have been easier if done during the initial build. If anyone is considering retro fitting ...

Re: Sea Kayak Rentals in New Zealand

I only went to North Island where it is almost impossible for a solo paddler to hire a kayak, unless it was a SOT. And I didnt see a European boat in 3 weeks either. Down South Island there appear to be more outlets have a look here for a start http://www.truenz.co.nz/kayaking/ NZ is a great place.....

Just got back from Arran after a week at same place as Dave & co. Midges hardly bothered us at all anywhere on the island and were easily fended off. We used Avon -Skin so Soft- dry oil and Calypso spray which has a bit of deet in it. Smugglers Den is a fantastic place to stay too, and highly recomm...

I'm in New Zealand at the moment and one sail just isn't enough! 2 guys setting off on a Hobie SOT with the pedalo thingies going off on a fishing trip had me racing for my camera..... no fancy fittings, the sails just popped into a hole on the deck http://24690012:@www.mbcmodels.com/images/kayaksai...

Re: Why are kayaks smooth?

Well here's another take .... from One Ocean Kayaks, who flog cedar strip kayaks and designs.. 'More importantly, accumulated scratches also reduce the hull speed over time due to viscous (friction) drag and re-varnishing will allow your hull to regain all that has been lost. Varnished surfaces, by ...

Survey done too. Like Nick, I too have a gammy shoulder which I am sure is work related RSI and also calcific tendinitis in right shoulder 8 yrs ago didn't help, but I didn't want to have surgery as it wasn't a guaranteed fix. Changing to a Greenland paddle has helped greatly, but the mobility will ...

I don't think you HAVE to register, but one of the benefits of doing so is that you can then rent a key for the washrooms and toilets along the way for a fiver.

Re: Moving the bulkhead in a plastic boat

Shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you make an accurate template to work from with an extra 3/4" all round as it will squash in a bit and you will have to sand a slight angle on it to allow for the taper of the boat. You will probably need 3" closed cell foam and I would Sikaflex it in too. use ...
