And Garth, thankfully our paths never will cross, as I paddle when you are a long way from the river, and when you fish I will never be there. Simon, this may be true, but not for the reason you state. Garth is, I believe, a retired angler and so it is unlikely you will meet him whilst paddling. He...

If they thought they could get away with it, we would have raft flotillas everywhere and half the home fleet parked up by Brecon. - but they apparently cannot. So take their word for it. You shouldn't go paddling around where ever you like without prior agreement. And if you thought that you could ...

Am I right in saying that tress pass is a civil crime? Yes And if some one wish's to get the police involved, then you must be there when the police arrive. However Anyone wishing to do this cannot force you to stay there as this would involve Kid nap, or something similar I'm sure. there for why w...

How is Andy Green getting on? What has his impact been? What has he specifically done? Achieved? Andy was at the access lecture at CanoeXpo last weekend. I came away from it genuinely angry and baffled at Canoe England's approach. Basically what Andy said was CE will be continuing to negotiate acce...

Not a lot I'm afriad. I brought this very point up with Mike Devlin a couple of years ago and his response was that young people who find themselves in this situation should be encouraged to just get out paddling until such a time as they are old enough to rejoin the award scheme. In my opinion its ...

Granta were indeed a boat manufacturer based in Huntingdon. They were big in the eighties making GRP canoes and kayaks. I think they may have even build wooden boats before this, but ultimately disappeared when plastic boats became the norm. They did dip their toe in the plastic boat market, but the...

I'm pretty sure there is a footpath which crosses the railway and goes down to the river from the road. It's a little way upstream from JJ's but if I remember right you can walk down from there.

The Canoe show with a difference Yes it was a shop Brookbank did take a risk but I expect the majority of the cost was met by the exhibitors. I respect Brookbanks for hosting the show, so much so I spend 5 hours driving to and from their shop(w), but if it is to be "A Canoe EXHIBITION worthy of the...

And it’s important to make clear that the Welsh Assembly does not currently have the legal powers to create a new public right of access to rivers and lakes. I suppose this is technically correct, but ignores the ease with which the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) could obtain this power. Under Sch...

but the show shouldn't be run by a single retailer, I am sure the monopolies commission would have some thing to say about it! I for one will not go again if it run solely by Brookbanks. People like Mr Bond are very vocal about their belief that riparian owners have a right in law to stop canoeists, and other water users, from navigating rivers. What they fail to do, however, is to point to the law which actually bestows such rights. The fact that the people who shout about this leg...

We need some representation from the UK in World Class. A single semester next year costs $16,600 USD and that covers everything except for plane tickets, immunizations, and any personal equipment (they do have access to pro-deals though). I know that is a lot of money, but considering the dollar i...

A word of thanks from an sworn enemy!

I have recently been exchanging a few emails with Garth Roberts secretary of the Carmarthen Fishermen’s Federation (yes, the guy I once referred to as a tosser on this forum!). On the whole it has been good natured banter and I have even learned a thing or two about angling too. Anyway, below are ou...

I'd like to paddle rivers in the summer when the water levels are up but I don't want to be the one taken to court to prove that I have a legal right to do so. Tricky. This is exactly how the riparian owners/angling associations want you to feel. They won't prosecute due to the (high?) risk of losi...
