Re: Team Bheri - Nepal Easter 2010

Might be worth contacting the BBC, and getting your best 'to-camera' face ready. They carried quite a long piece on News at 10 last night about people stuck in Bangkok, and about the poor service they've had, from Virgin particularly... Worth a try at least.

Re: Team Bheri - Nepal Easter 2010

Well, airspace restrictions have been removed (at least for the time being) for the UK- so the only thing delaying you now is the airline's backlog. Good luck...

Edit: just pray the volcano's big sister, Katla (next door and 25 times the size), doesn't go off before you fly out.

Re: UK Search and Rescue goes private

I've never heard such a load of rubbish. As someone who works for a PPP, and a very successful one at that- which is also safety-critical, I can vouch for the fact that having an element of private ownership, if properly administered, does not compromise safety or good service. NATS (my employer) is...

John, you might want to try Richard Cree- he's local to that area. If you're up that way next year I might well be able to show you around myself!!

Enjoy Troon (you lucky person) and have a lovely Christmas.

Mark, there's nothing on that first page for me, and as you know I'm on Firefox. Doesn't bother me though- I use the RSS feed in my bookmarks sidebar. Means I don't even have to open a web page.

Re: Climate Change: Rain fall…

The question of whether there has previously been more CO2 in the atmosphere is not the key to this. There are two key points: 1 It is the RATE of change in the climate that is not allowing habitats and species (including humans) to adapt that is unprecedented and unsustainable. Major (and fast) cha...

Re: Climate Change: Rain fall…

In the last 50 years, average annual rainfall in the UK has remained relatively constant. However, that is not the issue. The Global Mean Surface Temperature has also increased by approx. 0.6 deg C in the last century, and a warmer atmosphere holds more moisture. This means that when it rains in pla...

Trouble is, the pontificating know-alls scare off those actually involved in epics from discussing/outing their experiences. Couldn't agree more- been there, done that, got the t-shirt. We could all do with remembering, too, that sometimes 'shit happens'. You don't have to be getting on a river tha...

many of the paddlers I know who bought Nordlows ended up selling them feeling they were too demanding/unforgiving Weird. I used to paddle an Argonaut (aka Aquanaut HV) then lost a lot of weight and 'downsized' to a Nordkapp LV. Yes, it's tippier than the Argonaut, but it paddles beautifully-it's qu...
