Miss no-mates in Manchester!

Thought I'd post this here as the paddling pals forum seems to be all playboaters. I'm about to move to Manchester at the end of this week(Trainee Air Traffic Controller, on-job training at Manchester Area Control Centre) for the next 2 months & don't know anyone around there to paddle with. I'm a k...

Rant, rant, rant!

Looking at the map of the NW shows hardly anyone lives there so they benefit from open countryside, subsidised roads, ferries and jobs. Have you ever lived outside the SE, Guest??? As someone who is originally from the North of England but has lived and worked in London, the South Coast, the NE and ...

Lofotens

Thanks Chris Someone else mentioned the German tourist thing too: think a union jack or similar stuck to the deck is a good plan! We'll be going in August- just 'cos that's when my holidays are timetabled(I don't have a choice this year). How long did you go for? Was it long enough / not enough time...

Castles in the air

Dunollie Castle, Oban??? There's also Castles Shuna and Dunstaffnage around there, but don't think it's either of them. I forgot Gylen is having 'changing rooms' treatment at the moment! Great choice of location! I do miss Scottish paddling.. but was out playing in the tide in the Menai Straits toda...

Aquanaut

I paddle an Argonaut - the big brother (or sister?) of the Aquanaut and would not swap it for the world. If you want to try one out though, Gordon Brown at Skyak Adventures on Skye usually has Valley demo boats each season- why not give him a call & book a half day? I paddled the Argonaut on a 2-day...

Rockpool Kayaks

Check out their website: www.rockpoolkayaks.com I saw the Alaw being paddled (by Aled and several other people) at the Uist symposium, & they look like beautiful boats. Didn't get time to have a go myself unfortunately. Aled is also now running coaching courses as part of the business & having spent...

Wings

Are they really what they're cracked up to be? Sure you're not jumping on the Sean-Morley-paddling-machine-go-in-a-straight-line-forever bandwagon????? Surely they would make more delicate strokes like draw strokes etc more difficult and possibly unstable? The joy of paddling in the UK (and particul...

Re: Paddling friends!

Would that person who doesn't like his photo be Richard Cree by any chance...?
