Don't get too hung up on the verbal side - the battle format can get physical too. You might find a bit of inspiration here:

Re: Sweet Rockers with contrasting visors....why?

I see this year's kit's a bit different: http://www.sweetprotection.com/whitewat ... hc&pid=345. And - more importantly - no 'duck bill' colour as standard. Hmph.

Re: Sweet Rockers with contrasting visors....why?

I'd like a white rocker with orange visor so I could pretend I was a duck.

Re: What makes more money: raffle or auction?

OK - auction it is, then! I was thinking silent auction for most of the lots with bids possible all day Saturday, and then an evening auction for the big ticket items like our Pyranha Jed and Mitchell paddles. I'll post up a list of lots at the end of the week, once confirmed. I'll give a bit of tho...

I'm looking forward to http://www.deeriverfestival.co.uk later this month. It helps if its local, which it is for me. Funny - I was just about to mention the same thing! I'd say the best kayaking events... have an epic lecture battle and an attainment race up the river. The Dee River Festival 2012 ...

Re: March 23-25 - Dee River Festival 2012

Hey Boop - most of the team have been hard at work sorting out the logistics and, indeed, we're going to be running a Mega Auction on Saturday night (and maybe online too) to raise funds for the North East Wales Search and Rescue team. I'm just waiting on the final details of what's been pledged so ...

Re: What makes more money: raffle or auction?

Hmm - choices choices! I'm not sure we'll have time to really get the sales going in earnest before the event (especially with the time it takes to print tickets), and I haven't even looked at how you'd sell raffle tickets online. The system we're using to sell coaching workshops definitely won't do...

What makes more money: raffle or auction?

I just wanted to canvass a few options for a bit of fundraising. As part of the Dee River Festival we've had some really great prizes donated to raise money for North East Wales Search and Rescue . Pyranha have given us a Jed, we've got paddles from Mitchell, Nomad and Robson, gear from PeakUK and P...

I'm not so sure that is a true reflection of that situation, the course was developed by experts and the course was always going to be good after the work was carried out, I don't think it needed or had any alterations from the plans There were actually pretty major alterations from the plans. Sorry, Dave - just having a bit of a joke with Tom. He's so much more of a pedant about apostrophes than I am, so I wanted that moment of 'What does Pete mean? I'm sure that's right!' before he realised I was winding him up. I'm sure you guys will make the right choice on the cover - you've got some...

Also, a few people have asked about the Friday and Saturday night lectures. Yes - there'll be a bar. We'll shut the bar during talks, but there's still a bar next door that people can hang out in if they really need a pint or want to have a chat. A perfect venue! Just thought I'd post up a link to an article I've just read called I thought I was immortal . It's an interesting take from someone who's given the psychology of paddling some proper thought. Because the comments on the article have closed already, I wanted to share it here... It's an interesting t...

Style guide Pete says 'flare'. Flair is a transitive verb meaning 'sniff out', but 'flare' can be used both transitively ('I flared the bottom drop on the Laboreiro, despite there barely being enough water') and intransitively ('I flared right over the granite slab'). I think the closest historical ...

Any recommendations for a tip-top lecture evening?

A few of us over here in North Wales have been chatting about getting an event going locally in spring. Nothing too ambitious - just a few talks about action and adventures from around the world one Saturday night. A chance to catch up with friends and - hopefully - get inspired for new adventures. ...
