Does anyone know the difference between the two? I assume there must be one but I've pourder over descriptions and photos for them and can't seem to find any difference at all? This is excellent. Though am I being blonde? Other than knowing the river including its location, shape and measuring points, how do you tell which river you are looking at?

Re: River etiquette

I'm not the sure the guides are pushing their way in as such, but instead are more at the mercy of the flow both in and out of the eddys. My additional rule: Don't drop in to a feature when there is a queue of people on the other side of the river that have been waiting longer than you have! Where a...

There's loads of places to eat within a stones throw of CIWW. Mostly chains rather than independants, but I've included brief directions(and postcodes) for some below: Assuming you are in the car park at the centre and exit directly onto the roundabout: Harvester (0.4 miles) CF11 0SN There's a Harve...

Re: Cardiff White Water Course (imho)

I popped down at the weekend for another wonder around and got chatting to one of the engineers and wangled a bit of a tour around the pump house control room. The guy was saying that in order for the course to be able to claim to be olympic standard it must meet a set range of critera and he specif...

I believe there are few of us that would disagree that we should take "reasonable" steps to improve the safety of our children. As has been mentioned here previously though, the CRB scheme is a statement at a period of time and whilst has a value has its limitations and draw backs. The new Vetting a...

Re: Construction and progress of cardiff bay slalom course.

There is no (or at least very very little salt water that enters the enclosed bay. The slalom course is actually located right on the river mouth of the river Ely so I doubt there would be even a whiff of salt water. As I understand it the course is due for completion in March and due to open to the...

There is no natural gradient, the course runs on an entirely pumped basis.

Re: Construction and progress of cardiff bay slalom course.

Moved to Cardiff a couple of years ago and looked at a house on the waters edge that would have been a 50 yard paddle to the course. Opted for a different house in the end but the 1 minute drive or 5 minute walk will be an absolute killer - gutting! ;o) Might have to look at cycle + kayak solutions.

Wanted: Kayak for the larger paddler

I'm teaching a friend to kayak and need to find a boat for him that he can fit in! He's about 17 or 18 stone, 6ft+ and with enormous feet. I'm fully aware that there's probably plenty of boats he will fit in as his confidence, flexibility and pain threshold allow him to squeeze into smaller boats, b...

Tell your student union or AU that this isn't the case. They will be insured through Endsleigh more than likely and they do not require this, they simply require that activity is undertaken appropriately and in as safe a manner as is reasonably practicable. Qualifications are one of the best indicat...

Re: Minibus for European Roadtrip

Not to pour cold water on, but in re-registering your minibus (a catagory D1 vehicle) and in essence a "people carrier" (a catagory B vehicle) the conversion will need to meet Vosa's construction and use regulations. This will obviously need you to remove the seats, but I think you are required to s...
