Re: Alps Trip Advice 2013

Get in touch with PGL. They've got a base in Embrum, just down the road from Briancon. If you can get a place with them you can coach and they'll pay you (albeit not very much) and put you up, then on your spare days you can get out paddling as well.

Re: Are you within your remit?

It is imossible to to pass udgement on scenarios where you say "If person X hurts themselves, is it my fault?" or "If person hurts themselves, can they sue me". If t were that simple there wouldn't be lawyers! For an individual to successfully prove to a civil court that they are owed compensation f...

Pelican Explorer DLX

I've just spotted a Pelican Explorer DLX for sale in Costco at the moment for for £295. Having kayaked for 20 years but now with a young family we'll be looking to bring them into paddle sport with some lazy canoe trips on the Wye. Is this boat a bargain or a case of "you get what you pay for" Any t...

Re: Short Term Car Insurance for Alpes

I've found on a number of occasions that it is cheaper to add an additional driver to the policy until it expires, or even get car insurance for any driver than to add someone for a short period. You just update your policy and then update it again after the trip to removre them. It will probably af...

We're also not sure what it is but from the price it seems likely to sprint kayak semi finals for four of us.

More European nakedness. I think it was the Tosens section on the Inn is good high water levels on our uni club trip. Having brought our group through one of the huge wave trains that had many a heart pumping we'd pulled in to take a breath. A few moments later two merry naked Austrian (or Germans w...

I'm not the sure the guides are pushing their way in as such, but instead are more at the mercy of the flow both in and out of the eddys. My additional rule: Don't drop in to a feature when there is a queue of people on the other side of the river that have been waiting longer than you have! Where a...

I believe there are few of us that would disagree that we should take "reasonable" steps to improve the safety of our children. Re: Construction and progress of cardiff bay slalom course.

There is no (or at least very very little salt water that enters the enclosed bay. The slalom course is actually located right on the river mouth of the river Ely so I doubt there would be even a whiff of salt water. As I understand it the course is due for completion in March and due to open to the...

Re: Construction and progress of cardiff bay slalom course.

Moved to Cardiff a couple of years ago and looked at a house on the waters edge that would have been a 50 yard paddle to the course. Opted for a different house in the end but the 1 minute drive or 5 minute walk will be an absolute killer - gutting! ;o) Might have to look at cycle + kayak solutions.

I'm teaching a friend to kayak and need to find a boat for him that he can fit in! He's about 17 or 18 stone, 6ft+ and with enormous feet. I'm fully aware that there's probably plenty of boats he will fit in as his confidence, flexibility and pain threshold allow him to squeeze into smaller boats, b...
