Re: Upper Plym

I have always found the Plymouth an interesting one to describe, because it rarely looks like class five, but always feels like it.

Re: maintaining paddle fitness when you can't get to the riv

I will try many things, but draw the line at snowshoeing!

More evening cross country seems to be the obvious answer. I have a set of classics that I don't make nearly enough use of. I like the idea of setting a weekly distance target.

Re: maintaining paddle fitness when you can't get to the riv

Some meter sting responses, cheers for that. I'm doing plenty of ski touring, but should probably make more of an effort to take my cross country skis out of an evening. Simon, do you use a classic, or skating set up? I suppose the one option that everyone has been too polite to suggest is that I sh...

maintaining paddle fitness when you can't get to the river

Has anyone got any good tips for maintaining fitness for whitewater paddling when you can't get to the river? I used to live right by the Dee, so spent most evenings on the river. Now I live up a mountain in the Alps, and whilst I get loads of skiing done, my paddle fitness is probably the worst it ...

Swiss squirt boating

The snow n the Swiss mountains will be melting soon and I am keen to dig out my Shred for some sinking. Does anyone know any good spots in Sitzerland? Especially around the Rhone Valley.

Cheers.

Re: Girls getting ideas?

If you do find it offensive / scary / embarrassing, I suppose there is always the option of not watching it. You'd need to un-watch it. It's pretty clear from reading the description what you would be about to watch. There's probably not much point in watching something just so as you can get outra...

Re: Girls getting ideas?

Everyone is different. We should celebrate that. I can't see why a video about a group of friends paddling some awesome whitewater and enjoying expressing themselves is so offensive to anyone. If you do find it offensive / scary / embarrassing, I suppose there is always the option of not watching it.

Re: BCU BRINGS BACK OLD AWARDS

Lowri, David and Simon are well known and very highly regarded paddlers and coaches and their courses similarly well regarded. But pro coaches tend to teach advanced technique and skills not basics. In general they're dealing with people who are already enthusiastic, reasonably skilled and want to ...

Re: BCU BRINGS BACK OLD AWARDS

The previous scheme lasted for quite a few years with people understanding the limitations but I don't recall a huge groundswell of complaint about the inadequacy of the coaches, certainly not at level 2. Thinking about the years I spent working in centers in and around London. I worked with some l...

Starting your trip around Garmisch in Bavaria would be a good bet. The Isar, Loisach, and Risbach are all stunning runs in the class 2 to 4 bracket. Water level depending, there are some other good runs in the as too. It's a asonaby vshort drve over to Austria from there to the classic Stuff around ...

Re: BCU BRINGS BACK OLD AWARDS

I wonder if this risks creating a two tier coaching system. Essentially a premium and a budget level. Would paddlers that took this SI route be seen as inferior to Paddlers who tame the coaching route? is there transferavbility betweenthe two?I suppose there could be an argument for that in so much ...

In Bala it has to be a pie from the amazing butchers in town.

For me these days I have gone local and it's baguette, cheese, and sausicon for the river.

Re: How to make a vid ?!!!?!!

If you are on a low budget and your sponsors can't afford a second helicopter to film the helicopter that is filming the paddling, you must make sure that the sun is behind the helicopter that you do have. This will ensure that you get a helicopter shadow in the shot. Very important that.

There has been loads of snow in the South Alps so far, but it's early yet. We could get tons more, or it might warm up and rain leaving nothing left. Either way, Val Sessia and Ticino will have something to offer in May and hopefully into June.

It is pretty apt that at the same time as we are all bemoaning the loss of some great kayak shops, we are also complaining that the service from a website that specialises in bypassing shops and selling excess stock at budget prices is poor. If good service is important to us, maybe we should be pre...
