Re: Best way to store a lot of kayak paddles?
Giles, for your next rack get a 1/2" router with a guide bush and a worktop cutter, make up 1 side of a rack the way you described but oversized for the difference in diameter between the guide bush and cutter, and then clamp it to each of the other bits (might get 2, 3 or even 4 at a time) and rou...

Re: Best way to store a lot of kayak paddles?
Somehow I forgot to add that you can actually access individual paddles pretty easily: The gaps between each paddle in its row are big enough that if you lift up the paddle in front of the one you want and pull it forward a little you can then lift up the paddle you want, twist it 90 degrees and it ...

Re: Best way to store a lot of kayak paddles?
Right, so here we have a view of the rack in its entirety. It can hold 70 paddles but we generally leave a gap at the outside end in case someone fails to reach as far back as possible when putting their paddle away: http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j187/RandyFandango/Mobile%20Uploads/07595180-E32B...

Re: Best way to store a lot of kayak paddles?
I have created precisely what you need for my centre and it works really well and could easily hold the numbers of paddles you're referring to.
Sadly I haven't taken any photos of it but I will try to amend that for you tomorrow :-)

Re: Lee Valley Feature Names?
.................... ...I've always heard Jaws, Boom, Main Event, Sideshow, etc. Giles Is it true 'Jaws' had another name before which was deemed politically incorrect and so was changed? :-) Again -- I've only ever heard this here on UKRGB. I've never heard anyone refer to it as that at LV. I have...

Re: Lee Valley Feature Names?
Got this from the UK Slalom forum Piccadilly is the river wide stopper drop Big Ben is the first of the 2 big drops. Then there's the Oval, named due to the cut out eddies on both sides. This is reminiscent of the current middle section of HPP. The stopper in this section is called Sideshow (the LV...

Re: Coaching forward paddling
Oh yes -- this use of 'sweeps' when going off course: It's worth bearing in mind that when a kayak skids off course it's the stern that skids -- the bow stays pretty well where it's meant to be. This means that the bit of a forward sweep that has most correctional effect is really the last half as t...

Re: Coaching forward paddling
Last night one lad got to the giving up stage just as the wind began blowing and we all headed into it and suddenly learned to paddle in a mostly straight line rather than the lots of circles, wiggles and going the wrong way he been doing up until then. I have no idea what clicked but it was a love...

And therefore they're all potentially easy to roll?
Which makes the statement true :-)
-- Bear in mind the blurb on an ad is usually there to help sell the kayak so that might encourage someone to part with their money.

Re: Inconsistent assessments at LVWWC - money making exercis
Probably because there's much less chance of a stray paddle ending up in the pumps at other sites. Some sort of mesh would be in order then surely? It wouldn't have to be small - 6" squares would catch paddles and not affect the flow at all...... :-) C All interesting stuff :-) As regards a mesh --...

I found two fairly rotted dead bodies on the Bhote Kosi once. Very cheery...... Giles My poor ageing memory -- it was actually the Kali Gandaki..... On another note I've found numerous snakes taking a dip or sunbathing on the banks of the 'canals' of sunny Thamesmead -- very entertaining if you're ...

Re: Lee Valley Closed to Kayaks till March
I believe it's the usual winter shut down -- rafting has finished for the season and doesn't re-start until March so the Olympic course is just open for the usual year-round kayaks and canoes only session: one hour each on Saturday and Sunday. Paddling is only ever possible outside those hours on th...

My god -- what a crap bit of paddling :-) The raft was clearly playing in Sideshow and therefore not only blatantly visible but VERY easily avoided on either side. Personally that's not a spot I'd care to share with a great big rubber bus -- although I did like the paddler leaving it for ages then ...

The paddling was looking good but I had to switch off. The speeded up sections ruin the video and should be cut out altogether to just show normal paddling. Just my opinion, others may disagree but I don't see what purpose it serves. I believe you paddled the whole section if you say you did I don'...

The sheer gobsmacking arrogance of Mark Lloyd's: "It is important to stress that any access to rivers by canoes must be agreed on a river-by-river basis by the landowners and angling clubs concerned, to reflect the local fishing seasons and to protect fish and fishing." Nobody has mentioned the whole ramming rocks on purpose thing, otherwise known as boofing..... We're supposed to take that as a joke right? i.e. observational comedy based on some technique you have seen people using when they can't actually boof? Could be some fairly honest self-analysis perhaps??...
