Re: When where who?

When, where and who was the first person to make plastic kayaks? 1st plastic kayak made by Robin Witter of ACE in 1976 Chester. Graham Mackereth, Robin and Rodney Witter invested in developing the idea. Graham pulled out as it was eating money. The Witters persevered and we had one for the training ...

Re: Ian Beecroft - a tribute page

Jonathon your post popped up on my screen whilst I'm battling spreadsheets and recalcitrant printers and brought a smile and a tear to my face: a smile because an image of Ian with that look in his eye "this is worth the effort" when a scheme came to fruition and a tear because every so often I see ...

Re: Church Beck

Pioneered by lakes paddling legend Richard Evans. Certainly ran everything he published. Mostly in prijon probe or latterly an RPM. Anyone ticked all his becks? The probe was from eurokayak. The Probe was a prototype for the plastic version of the Topolino - they basically got the shrinkcage wrong ...

Re: New access charge for the Dee???

So far as I know there's been a charge for launching/landing at Mile end for 20 years, but they don't charge people who paddle through the site without using any of the facilities they have created. Did the person asking for the charge specifically say it was for parking, or might it have been for ...

Legality is questionable obviously but do you want the Mill developed into "luxury flats" instead?
BTW the planning application was turned down.

Re: New access charge for the Dee???

Call it what you want but it is basically a way of raising funds to pay for the facility: car park, changing facilities etc. You can park in town and pay at the pay and display machines or park at the Llantisillio car park at Chain Bridge and pay at the machine there too. If you don't like it go els...

Erik Boomer and Sarah McNair -Landry lectures

Erik N Boomer and Sarah Mcnair-Landry are coming over to the UK to do a series of lectures. I suspect the main feature will be their kite skiing into a river in Greenland and then kayaking out again. The film of the trip was the winner of Banff Mountain Film Festival People's vote but knowing the pa...

Re: Mystery slides

I wondered if it might be the Wellerbrücke section on the Ötz IN 1978 in glass boats - I very much doubt it. Mind you in about 1973 Mike Jones and the British Universities Tour that he was leading nearly ran the Wellebrucke section by mistake. Back in those days the old road went over a bridge very...

Re: Not managing to pull a spraydeck

Many years ago c.1971 I just taken up C1 slalom, C1s had an almost perfectly circular cockpit and I had a tight nylon spraydeck. I capsised at Marsh Lock slalom, tried and failed to roll and went to pull the becket (that is what the tab is called!), it came of in my hand leaving the deck in place. I...

Mystery slides

My mate has just found these slides and has no recollection of taking them or where they are of or who is in the pictures. Stamped on the slide is Aug 1978 so has to be before that. We went to Austria and the Braldu that year so might be Austria. http://www.davemanby.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/08...

I have just landed a job to build a passivhaus in Oswestry. The job start September just when summer instructor jobs finish so do you want to learn abot low energy house building, have practical skills, fit and strong (stupid question for instructors) and want time off if it rains! Then get in touch.

Sunlight is the biggest killer of pfds. Leave that aside. Years ago the Rangers at Lees Ferry the rangers would not let us use our CE approved pfds but accepted Whit's 20+ year old Xtrasport pfd which was as faded as my jeans to quote Kris Kristoffeson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahpIirW0svY). ...
