Re: Lower Ogmore (Ogmore Vale to Ogmore Beach)

Hi both. The best get in is behind Rush Cycles, in Brynmenyn. Don’t park in the allotted slots though you’ll annoy the shop owners. Park on the road in front. You can add length to journey by getting in higher up, behind the Fox and Hounds pub but there’s a massive tree forcing a portage, which is a...

Re: Dagger serial number location

Hi Beth, The serial number should be on a flat portion near the stern of the boat. So as the tail tapers off look on the side and you should see an area where it was etched on. Sometimes, even on new boats, they are not etched very well and can be difficult to see. On a used boat they can be almost ...

Wavesport Fuse comes in a good range of sizes. My 8 year old paddles one. Lovely outfitting and good price even when new.
Deceptively stable too.

Re: First thing you coach on WW

I explain it in 'rules'.
Rule 1 is always sit upright and if it gets exciting lean forward.

Rule 2- always look where you want the boat to go.

Rule 3- A paddle in the water is useful. A paddle out of the water is just something to carry.

Etc

Re: trespass insurance

Is anyone in a position to clarify this? CW insurance would cover my costs if I was taken to court for an alleged access infringement (trespass)? Would that include if you were advised you were trespassing but did carried on anyway? Damages would be negligible based on historic cases I'm aware of bu...

Re: What shoes for kayaking?

Adidas boat shoes are great and not too expensive. Look great and super comfy. However for big walk ins or big portages consider a boot. Baffin, 5/10, Palm Gradient. As with the previous post Palm quality is shocking lately. I've been using a Baffin boot for a year and would recommend.

Crikey there's some different approaches to this access malarkey... Re: Nookie drysuits

I had a very expensive top of range Palm and that leaked like a sieve after three years. In my experience all dry suits leak a bit. Bought a Nookie suit three years ago and very happy with it. Very light weight. For the money (got mine with a big reduction) it is a good product. You don't see many a...

I clicked on a link from a very well known and established coaching provider yesterday and started checking out their catalogue. Re: Artificial courses

To a cyclist a rolling road might be compared to going to the gym but a ww course isn't like that. You're still in your boat on the water. It doesn't have the sense of adventure or the unknown but it's still dynamic and challenging. I suggest if you consider it no better than a trip to the gym then ...

The tree has moved. It's now perpendicular to the flow and not a problem. Few trees down on rest of the river. None are currently a problem for getting by.

I'd echo the above. I used to be head to toe in Palm but just had too many bad experiences with the quality of their kit. I no longer buy anything from them. Hi Tom. We found the deck in an eddy.
Having seen your list I wish it was more.
Happy to post it back to you guys, sounds like you could use a bit of Christmas giving.
I suspect the boat was found by locals and is either on gum tree or eBay.

Simon echoing much of what's been said. Use the wonders of social media and hook yourself up with other boaters and paddle rivers you've never done before. The boats mentioned are great, up to date, designs but no less edgy than your current boat. You can go the way of so many paddlers these days and buy something huge, voluminous that will keep you upright more of the time and allow you to bounce off everything or... Get some instruction/coaching and ...

I recall, some years back, whilst learning to roll, I bailed after several unsuccessful attempts and said to my instructor, "it´s this boat, it´s just hard to roll" My instructor looked amused, jumped into the pool, entered my swamped, upturned boat, handrolled it back upright and casually handpaddl...

Re: Inconsistent assessments at LVWWC - money making exercis

For the record: contrary to the post by Franky. CIWW has both clean water and a conveyor. The course rules reserve the right to remove a paddler from the course if they pose a risk to themselves or others. So if you sign the disclaimer and just can't paddle you could get asked to stay off the course...

There's a tree down almost right across the flow at the bottom of the second rapid down from Cymmer.
Sometimes referred to as Magnetic Boulder rapid.
It was passable extreme left but in higher water would be a difficult to portage hazard.
Keep safe.
