For me, one female boater that has to be mentioned in this thread, purely for her exceptional enthusiasm for the sport is Cat Ross. La Malate in Besançon (only if there's been enough rainfall though!) On the way down to the alps, so could tie it in with Lyon's Hawaii and the Rab in Briançon.

Birrrrrrrrrmingham! Has a good history department, and this years committee are a great bunch of people! With a canal running through campus, where else can you hop in a boat after lectures and paddle to town for a cheeky pint? ;) Not far from Wales either.... and very central so turning up to paddl...
