Re: Shrike, a lightweight sea kayak for home construction.^

That was in-depth. Thanks. I'm actually years away from the possibility. First we have to build the large shed in our garden so how well we do on that will give us confidence to tackle other things or not? We'll see. Part way through the base of the shed but hit a wall as things in life at the minut...

Re: New - Advice Inflatable Kayak

We have an Intex explorer k2 and it's been great to get us out on the water to see if it kayaking was for us. It was £89 on Amazon and I could have sold it for 3 times that last year. It's a great budget kayak to test the waters but you may wish you'd got a more sturdy and capable inflatable that yo...

Southampton dirty water

I mentioned on a previous thread about how I wouldn't want to paddle in Southampton water as I believe it to be disgustingly dirty. I've recently been considering the prospect of paddling from Woodmill to itchen brigde and back as exercise (when DVLA decide to give me my driving licence entitlements...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

I weighed it with the seat and CARL system fitted. Weighing them separately they're 1.75kg so 28.25kg. but that leaves the hatch cover, foam bulkhead, front/rear handles, barrel strap, rear net, train plug, 4 metal hoop fixing points, deck lines and paddle keep, front tow ring. However I'm pretty su...

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

Yea it was the lack of informative videos that made me want to do it. I'll film my first paddle too 👍. That would have been this week but as long as DVLA stay on strike I'm screwed. Bit shocking about the weight too, I emailed RTM to see how they get the claimed 23kg. I have found Chinese copy's of ...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

Done a walk round video today, also done a second weighing video. That was a bit shocking. Anyhow here's my take on the midway (without going on the water) just my observations from all the searching I've done.

Re: Venture islay 14 SOT ??

They certainly don't feel tub like either when sat inside (or should I say on top). I put the console in loosely for a feel (wrong way round in the pic) and I feel locked in even just sat on the grass. You can deffo feel it's advantage. Bit miffed as to why they've stopped fitting the carry handles ...

Just get the bathroom scales out and weigh one by standing on the scales while holding one.

Yea, I said that to the wife after I posted. When I do my video I'll weigh them too.

Re: Crack in kayak

There is a liquid and powder mix that you put into a V made along the crack. I can't vouch for its strength and durability but it's a plastic weld without heat, just a liquid that I guess melts the new and existing together.

Re: Crack in kayak

I plastic welded on a high stress point on a bike fairing but just used a soldering iron and stitched it together then smoothed the join with the iron (I didn't have a proper welding tool and rods). Then for added strength I added some fiberglass (the two part in a tin type). The hardest part on you...
