Re: Point 65°N Sweden Touring Kayaks

couldn't find s discontinued list on their site then I googled the Nemo and found a list. Giving the measurements in the advert it's the picnic. Not suitable for open water apparently

Re: Point 65°N Sweden Touring Kayaks

I've send a message to point 65 with pics but not had a reply. I'm easy as to whether it has a rudder or not but I like the idea of going full steam ahead. The wife would like one.

Just giving it a little push to the top. I'll take 1 for now if no one has a pair. Bugdet around £900-£1k for 2 but could increase it for the right kayaks.

It's raining

It's raining, it's pouring, the old man is wishing he was out in it kayaking. Can't wait to have a proper kayak which won't fill up like a bath tub if we used it in the rain.

Re: Complete Novice looking for Advice

Not really. But reading up I'd quite like something with good secondary stability. They'd have to fit on a golf as well.

Re: Complete Novice looking for Advice

I'm new too, just don't get suckered into some of the eBay prices. They're hitting close to new prices for something a few years old and I can't justify that, even if they often include paddle etc. I'm after 2 sit in sea kayaks myself and want to paddle both calm and rough. Don't like being restrict...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

Still at least I've now got roof bars, upright bars and 2 pairs of straps all ready for the moment I get a couple. And rope to tie the noses to the tow eye. Just need either bar pads or pipe lagging to go over the bars.

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

I can see that with the 'proper' sea kayaks and they seem a far better purchase than the touring etc. A full on sea is the goal anyway. For the price that the others are going for to me it makes no sense buying used as for an incy bit extra you can buy new.

Re: Sea kayaks X2 wanted

I should add I'm 6ft and 13st, wife 5'8 and 10st. So I guess we don't need big cockpits. I don't want to be squeezing in but I also don't want to feel like I'll fall out if it rolls.

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

What is the going % off new price for a used kayak? There's a couple on eBay that look like they will exceed the last retail price. I don't want to be ripped off as a lot of people are now when buying the inflatable we have. Maybe I'm passing on good deals,? It's like the sudden boom in popularity w...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

I wouldn't get too hung up on getting identical boats as you are not (presumably?) identical people so the boats will behave very differently. Best to treat it as two purchases and get the best boat for each of you given weight and size, strengths and ability Hmmm? Ability? Only advantage I have is...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

Seen a capella and a tempest 170 together well in budget. But they are 400 miles away 😲 They're just the sort of thing we want to be out in and to have something like that from the start would be great. I've been hung up.on us having the same each so we can learn and help eachother as boat character...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

That sounds perfect, and get a core workout too. That's a win win situation 😉

We definitely want to cut through the waves and make progress on water. Battling a tide and wind in the K2 is certainly a challenge and a workout.

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

I forgot about initial and secondary stability. I'm thinking something with initial could end up feeling a little restrictive and we'd outgrow them as our ability and confidence grows. But secondary we can grow into and it would be more suited to the end goal. When I canoed (I still call it canoed a...

This https://www.northeastkayaks.co.uk/islander-bolero-14-0.html or a wavesport hydra although I need 2 so it becomes pricey. I may go to a shop local and see how they feel to sit in. The one in the link is more affordable X2 that 2 hydra's I ideally want used though leaving cash for gear. Had a loo...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

Bit of a bummer. Maybe salopets from our floatation suits and a cag until we get drysuits? I know the water where i go is 16-17deg this time of year and I'm ok snorkelling for up to 2 hrs before I need to get out. That's with just shorts and a t-shirt.

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

Had a go on a sit on top on holiday, didn't feel right? Still fun though albeit nothing to actually view where we done it. Just felt odd sat on top and I think of them as the recreational pond paddle boat of kayaks. The sort you see lined up to hire.

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

The pinch point between the IOW and Hurst castle creates one hell of a current. I saw 3 brave kayakers on 1st July off the spit just riding the swell for fun. I saw one them was in a cetas. I wouldn't want to bail out there. I'd seek advice from others and local knowledge on areas to get a heads up ...

Re: Help a newbie choose first sea kayak.

I canoed (I found out now it was a kayak) in 84 in salcombe from South sands to what I thought was called stink point? Found rolls straight forward enough (I was 14) . Used to do a lot of sea fishing (shore, shallow boat and deep sea) but mostly just looked at tide times. Pretty much went in all wea...
