Re: DORSET RIVER STOUR (Sturminster Newton to Blandford)

The annual Stour Raft Race takes place on 29th May 2011. Probably best to avoid the river for that day unless you are directly involved in the event. There is a new trailway from Stur to Stourpaine (ending, conveniently at the White Hores pub and shop) for non-paddlers. Ideal for runs, walks and rid...

Re: DORSET RIVER STOUR (Sturminster Newton to Blandford)

Please note that the bridge immediately after STURMINSTER NEWTON MILL WEIR is currently being rebuilt and there are extensive boarding, scaffolding and work on RL. (1st May 2011)

Please take extra care or put in below the bridge.

Re: FOR SALE: Edge 78 Kevlar 1 Slalom Kayak

Hey - sounds good; boat is living in Broadstone between Poole and Wimborne at the moment. Lets arrange a time and you can pop over and have a look/sit. I'd have though a couple of hundred quid is about right but I stand to be educated; as i said reasonable offers considered!

FOR SALE: Edge 78 Kevlar 1 Slalom Kayak

Any reasonable offer accepted Must be 15 years old but is in near perfect condition largely due to laziness and me getting too tall for it. Suits a vounger or smaller paddler as has below average leg room length (for a 6 foot person like me anyway). I believe still valid to compete in all divisions....

NRS Bomber kayak boots

Seen these boots in a big kit shop in Hamburg, Germany. They look really good. Anyone got any experience of them and better still does anyone know where I can get some? They didn't have my size when i was over there...

Congratulations WCA and well done everybody for writing to them. This is a pivotal move in the campaign for access and this should make heads turn and people sit up and take notice all over the sport. A tremendously successful outcome for all concerned. I for one will be at least joining the WCA as ...

Well I'd sure be interested to hear everyone else's definition of what is a canoe and a kayak. Because: Its NOT decks (slalom C1s: canoes, or sit-on-tops:kayaks for example) Its NOT seats (that nice picture of a canoe above...) Its NOT seating (you don't have to kneel in a canoe) Its NOT shape (slal...

Canoe or Kayak Ladies and Gentlemen...???

Now my classical training leads me to understand that the only universal definition of a canoe vs a kayak is that canoes use a single bladed paddle and kayaks use a two bladed paddle (and are usually sit down - as in seated, and mostly decked.) Alps - run away!

Very, very sad to hear about the deaths but Lord knows why they ever got on there in the first place. I mean from what we have seen you just wouldn't paddle. There are household appliance size boulders and ENTIRE trees going down every ditch you can see. We went out last Saturday and beat a hasty re...

Wild Swimming

Well, I tell you what - I have just spent £14.95 on Wild Swimming and just a few pages in I'm already impressed. Excellent detail, clear location instructions, EA water quality (could use that in a real kayaking guide!) and he is using the correct river left and river right sense as well! There's ev...

Sit on top sessions

As an instructor myself, I would say that the instructor should be in the same type of craft - especially with children. This avoids the "why do you have a different/better boat barrage of questions"? Also, it allows you to demonstrate more clearly. Some people will inevitably have difficulty transl...

Lets be European

In Austria (for example the Lower Oetzt) they use a cunning system of some ancient technology: a stick. Red at the bottom, green in the middle and red again at the top. If the river is in the green zone then off you go - go padddle and enjoy. If it is in the red; leave it to the fishies or the nutca...
