Re: sea sickness issues

Not so rare it seems! I used to get really queasy on dive boats (always a relief to get out!). Felt mildly rough in the sea kayak In a swell last week. I thought I was just imagining it as I’m still fairly new to kayaking. Joked about it in my blog, but maybe it’s a real thing after all.

Flares and safety kit for sea kayaking

We are renewing/setting up our safety Kits for sea kayaking. I’d be interested to know what people recommend in the way of flares: type, where you buy them and any other useful tips please! Thank you 😊 For the time being we will not be going far from the coast, but might be feeling braver within the...

Re: Canoe or Kayak trips in Portugal

Thank you! Great reply (in spite of the terrible autocorrects/predictive text in my question! ). We are hoping to drive down and thought that the Lagos area looked great, but needed some more detail.
Happy Christmas!

Canoe or Kayak trips in Portugal

We had a naming trip down the TRn Gorge in the canoe last year and are looking to Travel yo Portugal or Spain with either the canoe or sea kayaks. Has anyone done any great trips they can recommend? (Nothing too challenging please, I’m relatively new to it all 😊😊

Re: Gopro hero7: How do I get good images

I’m always in the market for an extra GoPro if the price is right ! You make a very valid point though, it’s not always easy to get a good shot without the bow of the kayak featuring heavily. I’ve given up using mine on voice activation, as any wind or surf noise makes it less than useless. I tend ...

Re: Gopro hero7: How do I get good images

I feel your pain too. BUT, I love the quality I get from the GoPro (mine is just a Hero 4 Silver). I'm learning slowly and painfully with the setup (set narrow and 180/60 now), and also with editing software. I don't know if the microphone on your is better than the 4 but I bought a Sennhauser case ...

I love premiere elements, got it for a bargain price of £30. (that said I do have the full premiere pro but a very old version so was used to the workflows)
Thank you :) I'll have a look

I think it’s a bit limited. I’ve been signposted to Shotcut and a couple of other free ones. Could be just trial an error to find one

Re: Video editing for GoPro

Have you tried the one that GoPro does? I haven't used it much, as I never get further than copying the footage from the camera into the computer, but it is suppossed to be reasonably good. I have tried but GoPro Quik but it seems limited. aaparently the old GoPro studio was good, but it’s no longe...

Put the P&H virgo on your list to try, has a demo today and thought it was lovely, nice and lively but really solid stability and agile too.

Re: Best sea kayak for a novice

knowing what sort of trips you want to do will help you narrow the selection down a bit, no point buying a long and fast kayak if you want to rock-hop or explore caves and passages, and don’t worry if its not a “real” sea kayak because maybe a “not real” sea kayak is a better kayak for your needs, ...

Re: Best sea kayak for a novice

This one's come up a few times in conversation so I am heading towards P and H - thank you. Just got to find one now! Don't be too hasty, and you shouldn't base your choice on conversation imo, you really want to try before you buy. When you have a wee bit of experience, either in a club boat or pe...

Re: Best sea kayak for a novice

If yoy can join a local club to you that would be a good way of trying different types of boats and see what you like, a personal recommendation would be a p and h scorpio, it is stable in a lot if not all conditions and i think very forgiving aswell, my fiancée who is quite a nervous paddler feels...

Re: Best sea kayak for a novice

I have a Wavesport Hydra that is super stable, quick for its size and not too heavy to handle off the water. Lots of 'deck height' so the knees can be bent up a little - I find a lot of kayaks a squeeze and my legs and feet easily go numb. It's a similar thing to a Stratos, but personally I think i...

Re: Best sea kayak for a novice

Some would argue that there’s no such thing as a tippy kayak, just tippy paddlers. For starting out you cold look at something like a dagger Charleston or a stratos, or a delphin or Scorpio Most 14ft touring kayaks are pretty stable but they are not “proper sea kayaks” ..which are longer (17ft) and...

Best sea kayak for a novice

Sorry, this might be a subject that’s been done loads of times...... I’m just starting out and a bit nervous on the water (but keen)... I’d really appreciate your suggestions on a nicely stable kayak that doesn’t threaten to tip me in at the first sign of a wave. I’m unlikely to become magically bra...
