Re: Handheld VHF recommendations

Well if using as a back up on a small yacht and Sea kayaking .I would go top of the line Standard Horizon HX890 all the futures you could want. I have a earlier model HX 851 and its been very reliable over the years. Only down side its on the large side to fit in a PFD. For small and compact go for ...

Re: Beginner first boat in Maine: Explorer vs Rockpool Taran 16 vs Eto

As mentioned by (on the Rocks) the selling point for the RockPool boats were the adjustable seat and foot plate. You really do get a custom fit. I was trying to decide between the Pilgrim Expedition and the Isel. I went for the Isel and very happy with it. Just returned from a week in Maine you have...

Re: Why don’t manufacturers update their websites ?

Simon64 I couldn't agree more. See I don’t buy no need to advertise or update web sites. Honestly who dosent want more sales or customers? Here’s the bigger problem. High end composite sea kayaks are I niche, small market to begin with and that market is getting smaller every year. I live 50 miles f...

Re: Do cockpit covers reduce fuel consumption?

I doubt it. However using one sure makes things quieter with highway driving and less work with unexpected rainstorms.

Re: GPS for sea kayaking

I have been using the Garmin 78sc for the last few years. All the features you could want and holds up well in salt water too.

Re: Alaw Bach and Isel Deck Height

I second reaching out to RockPool directly. I own a Isel and have paddled the Alaw Bach often. Regardless demo both boats. I know a few folks who’s thighs are too big for the Isel. It’s all about fit. If you are in the states Sea Kayak Connecticut, US distributor can help too. https://www.seakayakct...

Re: Seat height?

Well the seat height in my Isel is the lowest of any boat I have paddled.its a good thing! One thing to experiment with is seat position fore and aft. I moved mine a little forward to connect better with the thigh braces and easier for lay back rolls.
Have a great first paddle!

Re: Valley Sirona 16.1 RM - fit?

Hi there Disco Kayak I think you and I have learned the same lesson. Its all about fit when we get into the high end of sea kayaks. The Tiderace Xcite is a (best kayak in the world) class boat and on my short list for years. I was looking to upgrade from a MV boat my tried and true Impex Currituck. ...

Re: Paddler size Isel and Alaw Bach

I own the Isel. Male 170 lbs. , 5.9 and 32 inch waste. I only do day trips no camping.
I fit in the Isel fine as well as the Alaw Bach. Cockpit size and seats are the same. The Isel is a lowered deck, low volume boat.

Re: Difference between Pilgrim and Isel?

Hi there The secondary stability (on edge) is very easy to find on the Isel and stable. This is due to it being a hard chine hull in the cockpit area. The Pilgrim has more of a softer chine. I too found that the Pilgrim was harder to hold a edge and was twitchy in finding that sweet spot. Good luck ...

Re: Difference between Pilgrim and Isel?

Pilgrim vs Isel Hi I have demoed the Pilgrim many times. And I have owned the Isel for six months. The difference for me was the sitting position. The Pilgrim has raised knee bumps that didn’t fit me well. My Isel also has a foot plate that I find more comfortable than pegs. I am 5.9 165 pounds Both ...
