Depends where you intend paddling some rivers are free to paddle others you need a waterways licence. Canals need a licence.

Just to add a little into the mix if anybody takes there phone along with them (smartphone) there is an app available on both android & i phone called GRID REF which will give you your OS grid ref from the GPS in the phone so long as it is enabled if set to the 10 fig ref it is accurate to a few met...

Re: Repair advice please

Why not drill a hole the same size in exactly the same place on the other side & just put a nut & bolt through with a fibre washer to seal so they look
as if originally there.

Re: A boat to start off with

Maybe be a honcho (or whatever the smaller one was called) , not a bad boat, but you led want to check the size. Sent from my H8216 using Tapatalk He just got back and said he made it 2470mm long Could be a honcho or a GTX at that size (allowing for some tape measure error) and, from my perspective...

Re: Is vhf course needed

It is a requirement to operate. It is not a requirement to obtain an Ofcom licence. There’s nothing ambiguous about it, let alone ‘strictly correct’. Re your second point - can you direct us to your specific reference source, please? Really Mike as the licencee you can hold as many radio,s as you l...

Re: Is vhf course needed

Ok not strictly correct on needing src to get the licence but i think it is still a requirement to operate.
As DSC are the only ones you need to register you can have a shed full of standard radios on just one license.

Re: Is vhf course needed

Interesting point being raised from the above. I have two VHF hand-helds, one DSC one non-DSC but I've only registered the DSC set. If I had bought the non DSC set first, I would have applied for a licence for it (why not, it's free...) then, when I bought the DSC set I would also have registered i...

Re: Is vhf course needed

Sorry Bud not wishing to be rude but you need to read things correctly even when in print from ofcom. (1) SRC is a requirement to obtain your license (2) You need a license for ANY radio capable of transmitting RF (except PMR) (3) Non DSC radio,s you can have as many as you like on 1 license (4)You ...

Re: Is vhf course needed

We're going in circles my friend. Are you saying that if the set doesn't have DSC then it doesn't need a licence? it,s just that your initial statement regarding registration makes it sound that you needed to register whatever radio you intend to use, does get rather confusing for those just starti...

Re: Is vhf course needed

you need to register & have separate licences for each DSC radio you have. Correct. But not just for DSC. You have to have a licence for ALL such equipment. From Ofcom: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your-licence/radiocommunication-licences/online-licensing-service - specifically, under the headin...
