North Shore Atlantic RM for surfing?

Hello there In my ongoing search for a plastic kayak that I can use for surfing I'm now considering the North Shore Atlantic RM as an option. So far I've tried the Sirona and a Delphin 155. The Sirona was a bit too tight and while the fit of the Delphin 155 was very nice, I'm wondering if it is too ...

Romany Sport - leaking cockpit rim?

Hi there,

I am considering the Romany Sport (RM version of Romany Surf) as my new surf boat. However, I've read some older posts where people complain about water leaking in between the plastic and the composite cockpit rim - does anyone know if this has been fixed, or is it still an issue?

Re: Gelcoat coming off cockpit coaming

Hi Aled, While the first option definitely sounds like the optimal solution it is probably also the most time-consuming one since I live in Denmark ;-) I think I will go the repair route. While I'm not much of a handyman your instructions make it sound manageable. Will a tube of gelcoat filler + har...

Re: Gelcoat coming off cockpit coaming

I don't know if it is epoxy or polyester, but it's a Tiderace Xcite Harcore (Kevlar/carbon) and I bought about 2 months so it's quite new. I might send an email to Tiderace as you suggested.

Re: Gelcoat coming off cockpit coaming

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the input. I've never dabbled much with sea kayak materials so bear with my newbie questions: when you say resin do you mean epoxy resin?

Gelcoat coming off cockpit coaming

Hi there, Just discovered that a small piece of gelcoat has come off my cockpit coaming. Probably not a major issue, but I'd still like to fix it somehow. Any ideas for what to do? Can I apply gelcoat or some other material somehow? The boat is carbon/kevlar btw., don't know if that's relevant. A fe...

Re: Adjusting Silva 70p compass

Hi again, Thanks for all the advice. I've gotten hold on some 1.5 mm neoprene and will try and make a gasket out of this. I found this picture showing one where the gasket is placed between the plastic mounting plate and the brassplate, but I'm not entirely show how I will place it, yet. https://med...

Re: Adjusting Silva 70p compass

You might have a point there, Allan. Will check it out. The gasket idea is good - I'll see if I can get hold of some neoprene. Should it be placed between between the plastic mounting plate and the brass plate underneath that? Somewhere else I've read that you should just throw away the brass plate ...

Re: Adjusting Silva 70p compass

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I'll give it a shot with the string to check the alignment of the lubberline. Otherwise, you're probably right about the it not mattering that much. I also discovered that the compass isn't entirely flush with the deck, as you can see on the attached photo. There seem...

Adjusting Silva 70p compass

Hi there, I recently purchased a Tiderace Xcite Hardcore and had the dealer install a Silva 70p compass. However, I've noticed that the lubber line on the compass is a few degress off. Is this something I can fix myself? Can I loosen the screws slighty and then adjust the compass? The screws have al...

Re: Gelcoat damage on brand new kayak

Hello all, Really nice with all your input. It's very interesting to read for a guy who isn't that familiar with the workmanship of a sea kayak. I decided to look the entire boat carefully over, trying to see if there were other places in which the finish wasn't up to par. While I didn't find any si...

Re: Gelcoat damage on brand new kayak

Thanks for the replies! Good to hear your opinions on the matter. I don't know how the kayak has been transported before I got my hands on it, but I transported it on well padded roof bars (Thule 840 K-guard). The things you can see in the last picture in the top right can corner are fortunately jus...

Gelcoat damage on brand new kayak

Hi there, I hope it's okay for a Dane to be posting in here. There is no equivalent Danish forum for sea kayaking. I just picked up my Current Designs Prana this week and today I went for a trip for the first time. To my great disappointment I've discovered some rather extensive damages to the gelco...

Thoughts about Prana by Current Designs?

Hello all I'm looking to buy my first fibreglass sea kayak. The kayak would have to be a bit of an all-round kayak, but I will probably mostly use it for day trips and weekend trips. I've been looking at the "Prana" by Current Designs. I haven't had the opportunity to test it yet, but hopefully I wi...
