Re: River Grudie
I meant to write a guide for this for the new guide book, but forgot... really fun river. The section above the fall is worth the walk, more of the same as below the fall. Like you have said, its a great paddle to do before the Talladale, both of which take loads of water to come in to condition. Th...

Re: River Meig - Upper upper section
Nice to see someone else get up the glen and paddle this section. Its worth walking in to ref: NH 1737 4881. Some nice technical drops, but add this to an already long walk, is a big mission. Although the gauge for the Meig is below Loch Beannacharain, I generally try to catch it at about 0.8 on the...

Re: River Blackwater
The gauge is reading the same as before. .8 is a good medium. Above 1 the run becomes quite powerful.

Re: River Meig - Upper Section above Dam
There is an really good section hidden away much further up the glen. Drive to the private road signs, park up then start walking. the track crosses the river just after an old house. It might be tempting to carry on on river left but don't, it is a considerably longer walk. Instead take to the walk...

Re: River Affric
How we got it on a good level was by total luck. I paddle in that area a lot. There was a lot of water about. The dam was spilling slightly and the hillsides were awash with burns, just total luck. In the 20 years since I first paddled it the gorge has changed a lot. The Chossy rapid at the entrance...

Re: River Blackwater
On the sepa gauge .8 is a nice clean level for all the drops. Above 1 and it gets very powerful. The top drops are clean from .8 but above 1.2 the hole under the old bridge will eat you. enjoy

Re: Cuileig River - Lower section
I agree with Dr Robin. easier to paddle across at the confluence then walk up the river left. Shame not to paddle the full section though, its an incredible gorge. With the right water level its quite clean. Too low and its a bit chossy. If the upper is a nice medium then the lower will be a nice le...

Re: Black water (Brora)
Nice to see someone else up this way paddling the lesser known runs. The Black water is an amazing run. We first paddled it many many years ago, in the topo days and it stuck in my memory to return again but took a long time. The first time we did we were allowed to drive in. We put on right up at t...

Re: River Affric
Just a quick heads up, the edge of madness has been paddled, madness has also had a couple of descents. The double slide after madness is one of the most fun/ intense rapids around. The only drop not to have been paddled is the thirty footer after this. I was in there last year at a good level and t...

Re: Abhain Deabhag
Like you Banzer I too love this write-up!!!! This river being one of my favourite runs in the country. I find it surprising to hear it be labelled as a portage fest and chossy. I can only assume that the author doesn't has sufficient information to write a true comprehensive guide. With the correct ...
